my first 6 jars, are they contaminated?

There are yellowish/brown splotches in all of my jars, it kinds of looks like it could be dried/shriveled up mycelium. They are lighter color than the pictures show because they were taken with a cell phone camera. Help me out, please say they aren't garbage now :frown:

EDIT: They were inoculated about a week ago, and are not fully colonized yet.

Are those just uncolonized patches of substrate?

That's what it looks like in the picture but when I look closer I can see fine brownish/yellow looking patches of hairlike structures.



In this picture I circled a few things.
Red is mycelium, green is substrate, and blue is the "contaminant"

Should I just want and see if the mycelium can fully colonize? If there IS some type of contaminant, and the mycelium kills it and overtakes it, is there any danger that the mushrooms would draw nutrients from the contaminant and become poisonous? Thanks.

So what should I do? Boil the cakes and toss them out, or try to grow them outside?

I guess garbage is your best bet, unless you want to try to grow em outside, suit yourself ya kno?

looks bacterial from the pics. Just pressure cook the jars again or fractionally sterilize them and put them straight into a garbage bag and throw it out. You want to have as little of that shit in your house as possible.
