Things always come in threes
    #7272538 - 08/07/07 10:55 PM (16 years, 6 months ago)

This is one of those oft-repeated superstitions that has too many adherents.

A neighbor dies one week. A week later a co-worker dies from unrelated causes. Then out comes the "Uh oh. Things always come in threes," from a knowing friend or relative. :yesnod:

As the parentheses is not closed until the third thing happens, the superstition is 'true'. When a fourth thing happens shortly thereafter, that becomes the beginning of a third thing.

Reminds me a recent UFO report, "I saw three lights in the sky. Amazingly they formed a triangle!" Doesn't get any more amazing than that, folks.

What is the point of this rant? That patterns do not necessarily have any meaning whatsoever.

"Thins always come in threes"
I thought this was going to be about 3 skinny people:lol:

But yeah alot of people form stupid patterns in order to make them feel smart or as if they discovered something great.

like "I pray I find a good parking spot"
Then they get ecstatic when they find a "good" parking spot

I dunno.......I know what you mean though:shrug:

It's all about finding patterns... one has to find patterns in order to re assure himself/herself that they are still alive and "things are happening to them". :strokebeard:

Trilogies don't help at all either...

i believe that everything coming in threes is a very sacred motif, hence it's prevalence in masonry and christianity (holy trinity) - both of which are the biggest influences of everything else associated (government, education, charity, architecture, social engineers, etc.)

ive been very fascinated with the number three ever since i can remember. I don't know if anyone else ever had a favorite number, but mine has always been the same.

mines always been 3 as well. I suppose I've abandoned my 'lucky number' over time but if I had to choose it would still be 3.

It has just always been a very prevalent number, I noticed it's widespread application when I was a little elbisivni.

Is that related to the 'Law of High Fives'?
