Very colorful species! Is it used for something, e.g. like reishi for its anti-carcinogenic properties?

Was it growing on a cherry-tree btw? Bark looks kinda like cherry, but this conk popped it. (Couldn't resist, sorry)

I found them on a cherry tree, correct.I don't think they have any medicinal uses though.as cactu said of pycnoporus sanguineusis, maybe a anti-inflammatory,acne medicine or use as dye.they were soft and spongey like my brain.:igor:

cactu:wasn't really a disturbed area, except for the tree they were on that fell.:igor:

Alan:nice picture.:igor:

Neat mushroom coon, did you take any home?
Wonder if they will retain the brilliant coloration upon drying?
I used to have a book shelf with dried polypores affixed in a manner to give the appears they were actually growing from the furniture. Bright red specimens would be kinda neat for such a project.

no,left them there.they are supposed to turn white with age so they'd probably turn white with drying is my guess.polypores mounted on the book shelf....:igor:
