i thought Everything You Need , they were trying to go a little too poppy, mainstream with some songs

then Closer to the Sun i thought was great, still a little poppy but overall, great.

now with this new one, i think its perfect... lots of good reggae and even some pretty spacey chillout tunes. i give it really high marks...i didnt think any of the songs were like pop shit. my only complaint is i wish miles was the lead singer... it seems he isnt singing lead vocals on a majority of the songs anymore. he has a better voice imo

I really liked Closer to the Sun. Not so much a fan of their newest album but I kinda glad they're starting to drop the whole punk rock direction which I thought they were horrible at.

dude i always thought Sublime's "punk" songs were their weakest material. i thought Long Beach Dub All-Stars "punk" songs were the worst songs on their albums. i agree that slightly stoopid's "punk" songs are the absolute worst on the albums. maybe skunk bands just play shitty punk.

hot Damn! It's good to see fellow Ese Locos on this board! SS are GREAT! How these guys aren't bigger then they are i don't know! I downloaded the new album last week and really digging it. They are definitely getting a more mature sound with every album. Cannot wait until they come to Philly in a few weeks. They are playing down at Penn's Landing with G Love. Outside on the waterfront - how can you go wrong?

I'm really loving "Around the World", "the Ocean" & "Anywhere I go". "Breakbeat" is really cool too. And to the dude that said not to compare Sublime with SS - ya gotta be kidding me! I LOVE Sublime. I have numerous Sublime tattoos - hell, I even got a dalmation named Louie II. And anyone that has 1/2 an ear for Ska, Slightly Stoopid picked up where Sublime left off. yeah, sure, SS hasn't had a major hit played on the radio but I think that's what is so appealing to them. They tour non-stop, put out one album after another and truly play their music from their hearts. Can't get enough of them.

If you never heard them, by all means download the torrent that KingOfTheThing kindly posted and treat yourself to some LSD or mushies and give it a listen. Then check out their other albums. I posted the complete Slightly Stoopid discography and videos via Demonoid last year and it is still going strong. Just do a search for "complete slightly stoopid" via torrentpond.com and check it out!

those actually the songs ive been digging too... i have a sublime tat as well :smile:

i think SS has a few songs that are perfect for radio, almost too radio friendly
its just politics, radio stations barely play new shit the record companies dont force them to play

im glad they dont have a hit though.... sometimes a hit ruins bands

for instance the band "sugar ray" used to be a punk band, like hard, loud serious punk too. THey actually were called the Shrinky Dinks... there is actually a concert poster on the live sublime album jacket of an early 90s tour. it was sublime, 311 and the shrinky dinks (sugar ray) touring cali together. if you listen to sugar ray's first album even, "fly" was the only song that sounded like that, the rest was punk.

then fly becomes a hit, they get beyond fucking gay. every album since then gets progressively gayer and they try to make every song sound like "fly". that lead singer turned from a punk dude into a completely metro sexual fag. i dont even think they're a band anymore. the lead singer just is a reporter for one of those gay ass entertainment shows.

I've been a fan of slightly stoopid since 2000, back when longest barrel ride and acoustic roots were the only material you could get your hands on. All the albums since have gone down hill. Like you already said, more poppy and their songs all sound the same. Cant really argue with that. Don't get me wrong I like a lot of their songs, mainly from the first two albumbs though. I dled this cd, and thank you for posting it becuase I certainly wouldn't buy it. and some of the punk songs and riffs on longest barrel are really good in my opinion. the punk stuff on closer to the sun and everything you need are indeed subpar.

If you like stoopid and sublime, check out the expendables, If you havent already. They are from Santa Cruz and in my opinion offer a lot more musicianship in their songs but really do the reggae/punk thing like sublime incredibly well.
