The number one reason I've found that people experience premature pinning is because they don't incubate at the correct temperature. AND NO! leaving your jars on a heating pad is not consider kosher since it unevenly heats the jars. You need to make sure that your jars remain at 86F or so. I found that directly above my refrigerator in the cabinet there, the refrigerator keeps the air in there about 82-84F. Pls no one ever opens that cabinet. Another thing I've heard of people doing is setting them above a hot water heater in the garage, this also seems to provide a nice incubation without the use of extra equipment. I have yet to see pinning without dropping the temperature from 84 down to like 75-78. Even with tons of light exposure! Shrooms need 3 things to decide its time to fruit. Temperature Drop, Air Exchange, and Light ExposurE(Exposure could be as little as 10 seconds a day, its just that the more like they get the more inclined they are to grow upward) So the next time around try to incubate your jars to prevent them from getting the lower temperatures or else they'll think its ok to pin!

another couple jars are forming VERY thick mycelium in some areas almost so thick that it looks like mushrrom mass that could form pins

I've seen that happen with my PF's before. I don't know what causes it, but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

I had a good picture of that type of mycillal growth once, I wonder if I can find it again.

Found it in this message: http://www.shroomery.org/ubbnoncgi/Forum2/HTML/004552.html

Here is the image in question. Ignore the circles, the structure in question is just below on the right.

Yeah code its like that.. "kind of" I guess Ill wait and see what happens... yours looks like very thick mycelium growth and mine looks like its dripping chunks of mushroom mass in some spots... But still its pretty close to yours exept my jars dont have that powerful mycelium growth..its more cottony! But thanks for the pic it gives me a mental reference..

AnubisRonin, if you are going to use that method, the top insulation is VERY important. What I do is place a plastic sheet over the jars first (trashbag would work in a pinch). Then I cover that with several layers of blanket. If you don't have the sides of the container insulated, be sure to drap the plastic and blankets over the entire box, not just the jars.
