Alot of people don't understand the main thing about light. You don't need big fancy lights for your mushrooms. In nature you don't see big huge flourecent lights do you! NO! All you mushies need is either just regular daylight, or, if you are hiding your casing in a place where their is absolutely no light, then just pretty much any light will work, as long as it doesn't superheat your terrarium/casing.------------------ Flog and squee up the tree see the army flee, flee, flee.

Cubensis do not need much light at all. A few minutes a day so they know which direction is up is all they need from what I have heard. My friend keeps a simple 10 watt bulb on a 12/12 cycle in his closet and they grow fine.OH yeah, and welcome to home growing your own shroomies B+ - nice choice. Ok, I'm all set on the lighting. What about the all important substrate? Do I need bird seed or not? And what about heating and humidity? Will a bubbler and heater do the job with the 50/50 casing or do I need something else? I'm not very worried about the heating, my flat is around 70-75F as is, but it's not very humid. Thanks for the help.------------------ We were all delighted, we all just realized, we were leaving confusion and nonsense behind and performing our one and noble function of the time. Move.

nah, you don't need birdseed, I grew my b+ on whole brown rice (not flour) and verm, and it grew massive rhizomorphs, very fast colonization...

I've been leaving a 120 W light out side my clear rubbermaid container (20 galons) 24 hours a day to add some heat. But now that you say that about 12/12, I'm sure the guys would like a chance to sleep, what do you think?

Well, I'm not quite to the casing and terrarium step yet, but I did innoculate 11, 1/2 pint jars last night. Now I've just got my fingers crossed I didn't dork the whole thing. I'm sure everything was sterile, I sprayed like my whole apartment with this Clorox spray. And I cooked my jars for 1 1/2 hrs. I taped over my holes. That is the right thing isn't it? the MMGG didn't mention it but I remember reading it somewhere. Thanks again Ryche, and everyone else who helped me out, boO and the guys in chat! ------------------ We were all delighted, we all just realized, we were leaving confusion and nonsense behind and performing our one and noble function of the time.
