Combating Overlay
    #724919 - 07/05/02 01:49 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Coming back from July 4th vacation, my friend believes his casing has fallen victim to overlay. Can this casing be saved? Can he put another layer of coco coir over it?

Thanks

If you are desperate, rake it over with a clean fork. How long has it been colonizing? What else have you tried? More info might help.

It has been in the terrarium for 3-4 days now. It appears to have colonized the coco coir surface a great deal more than the last time I checked on it, before I went on a two day vacation. The temp in the terrarium is 76 and RH is 90%.

Yeah, it was cold shocked after the mycelia poked through the coir. Im thinking that when I was gone for a couple days I forgot to leave the light on, and couldnt fan. I guess it cant hurt to put back in the fridge.

I have deep scratched before with great results but since i've learned a little bit more of what is actually going on i've been reluctant to do it.
But i would try it as a last resort.
Rehydrating your casing by injecting some spring water down the sides is a good idea.
