Holes in the terrarium to control humidity...
    #721196 - 07/03/02 07:22 PM (21 years, 9 months ago)

Ive got my terrarium running now, off a Kaz cool mist with two 1/2" hoses running into it. Ive drilled a few holes in the lid, to keep airflow constant and help control humidity (which would be way too high if there weren't any holes, with the humidifier on 24/7...)
Is this high rate of gas exchange ideal? A few more and I could get it at a steady 95%, with the humidifier on constantly...

you don't want the humidifier on 24/7.

I have a humidifier on 24/7 and the humidity stays at 94-95%.
Is this still bad?

Here is what you need to do, you need to keep your humidity at the % without drilling holes in your terr. So adjust your humidity on the other end , use timers, defusers like 2 liter bottles, you can cap your hose so only like 1/4 of the tube is open. The problem with letting it run full blast right threw your terr is that the water droplets are most likely forming on your cakes or casing before getting pushed out, its just safer to add just as much humidity as it needs vs pour it in and let the excess run off. Hope i helped . Drac

I dont have a problem with large water droplets in the terrarium - Im running two long 1/2" hoses with a bunch of twists and turns in them up to the fruiting chamber - all the water condenses and runs back down the hose before it gets into the terrarium. Im at 98% humidity and I dont even have any condensation on the walls...
Is there an inherent problem with filter-covered holes in the terrarium? I thought it would be better to provide for a high rate of gas exchange...
