which is why looking at how your mind reacts to reality and its situations might be a worthwhile endeavour. a lot of physical damage we can do to ourselves every time we feel agitated, annoyed, right up to 'blowing up'
i would say it's the mind affecting the breathing as much as the breathing is affecting the mind.
and don't you notice that when something starts off the day in a 'bad' way shit just piles up and we just assume it's 'just another one of those days'

We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

yes, starting the day with bad vibes seems to affect how we live out the rest of the day.
But i think we are not aware of the good things that could happen on the same day and instead focus only on shit happens.
As you said, it is necessary to be aware of how the mind responds to any situation. Then we can nip that bad feeling in the butt...er bud.

Do you ever get the feeling that the breath is the mind itself
Yes, just observe when you are angry, your breathing is more rapid and shallow, and when you calm your breath, the anger passes.
if mind and body are one thing, so breath is mind. if we see distinctions. anger is in the body, and only reflected or echoed in the mind.

There is a glut of knowledge presented in that excellent site that it would take a lifetime to mine it, and understand.
