rubber gloves and face mask are always good. try cleaning your working area with a dilluted bleach solution and spray plenty of lysol! thats about all you can do...

i just wanted to mention an experiment i did. after casing some jars, there was a chunk of vermiculite from the top of a jar( from the so called ramsey seal) that was damp and been colonized that i left laying on my dresser for more than 24 hours exposed to air...well i took it, opened a left over sterile jar and threw it in, without doing any thing to clean the air, and im a pretty messy person...not uncommon for old moldy beer bottles to be laying around along with smelly dishes... any way to my suprise the jar colonized with no contamination, and much faster that from a spore syringe ( it came down evenly from all sides at once, and was thick and white from the get go). I used to go ape shit cleaning my house and spraying bleach water, now as long as my house is somewhat clean, i think a quick spray of lysol or bleach is all it takes if your using syringes....but dont take my word for it, this was just one little experiment..

just one more note, unless your latex gloves are individualy packaged and labeled as sterile (ie for major invasive surgery were foriegn bodies could infect a patient) , then they aren't, even the if there from a hospital/ dentist office, which basically makes them no better than washing with antibacterial soap...but they make you look like a scientist

Couple things that are commonly overlooked: Wind make sure your work environment doesn't have a breeze, look around any sources of germs around (garbage, toilet, cat litter) Move them or don't work buy them. Got animals? Cats are very curious, germs and destruction. Everything else you can do has allready been posted.
