OK...I Need Some Help...Here's the scoop.

LOCATION: Central Texas

I have been out looking for shrooms now about 8 times. I have gone to 4 fields and searched and searched and searched...but NO STINKIN LUCK. We just got 4 days of rain here and I looked during and after the rains. I have spent hours and hours walking around cow fields, had to boink a bull on the noggin with a cow bone, have blisters on top of blisters, and my legs are killin me. All my shoes are muddy and I am not joking when I say I walked about 30 miles this past week looking for shrooms.

I have found many, many mushrooms in the fields, but none of the cube variety. I have found about 10 different kinds of shrooms, but NONE staining blue. My girlfriend has lost all faith in my ability to supply her with a quality mind altering fungus to eat. Someone please tell me what I am not doing right or doing wrong.

What are some of the things to look for in an active field? All grass....weedy....lots of trees.....should i be more interested in fields with lots of bulls or just cows? Should the field be flat or hilly and what kind of factor does wind play? Should I go during a rain...2 hours after, 10 hours after, 24 hours after, 48 hours after? Does the sun kill them off by mid-day or will they live for 2 - 3 days? Does what the cows eat have anything to do with it? Do cattle egrets have anything I need? Are the egrets like the gatekeepers or something...do I need to ask them for a special key? Is there like a "Head Bull" wearing a white robe with technicolor horns that I need to get permission from? Maybe the whole thing is a big joke like a SNIPE HUNT and I have been on candid camera for the past few days while the whole world watches me like the Truman show.

Can someone please give me some good ole friendly Texas help on this. I am getting frusterated and could probably do less work to buy a bag of shrooms if I set my mind to finding a hook up. Maybe if someone would privately share an active field with me in the central Texas area that would be so nice. My email is austin_texas_dude@hotmail.com. I will keep all information to myself and not tell anyone. Or if you could just offer some advise to me as to where I might try looking to have better luck.

The fields that I have been going to are very vast. They are huge fields full of cows that are miles wide and you can walk them all day without seeing a single person. I just need to know some tips to help me select an active field. It has been about 6 years for me sinse I shroomed out, and I am starting to think that all this work, risk, and blisters are not worth the effort. Heck...I did not even see one lil tiny cube anywhere.

Please help me with some advice...I know a lot of Texas people visit this site

P.S....I did manage to find 2 cow skulls, a set of bull horns, a coyote skeleton, a turtle, a couple cool rocks, and 2 golf balls though.

Well I doubt anyone is going to tell you exactly where there field is but all you can do is search. I have traveled miles away before in search of fields and found nothing just like you. It just takes some time to find the right spot. I am lucky enough that one of my friends a couple of years back showed me this one field and every year all I have to do is go to that one field. The past 2 years though they havent had anything in that field so I didnt find any unitll finally just this year. What I do is go like 2 days after it rains. Thats only like if it hasnt been really really hot during the day b/c the shrooms dry out quicker when its hot. Sometimes I have went at daybreak and got some before the sun had a chance to dry them out. The field I go to doesnt have many cows, maby like 10 at the most and the grass isint that long. Probally up to about my chins, but they have alot of spots where the grass is really tall and the shrooms are always hiding in the tall grass. Thats usually where I find all the big ones at b/c I think the grass helps shade them so they dont dry out as quick. This field isint that big either. It might be like a acre or two big, but it only takes me like 15 min to cover the entire thing. Ask around some of your friends and see if they go hunting. Usually they wont mind if someone come alongs and helps pick them unless they picky about people knowing there fields. Just dont give up searching you will find some eventually. Try traveling to some farther away fields. I know I have been to alot of fields next to each other and havent found any, but have found some like 10 min down the road. Just buy some for now if you want to trip so bad, but never give up looking. Also look for some fields that the cows feed off of hay. Thats the kind of field I have and the shrooms must love the hay b/c I always find some big ones in little piles of hay. I dont think that I have ever really found any in some fields where the cows eat food out of a trough.(sp?) For me they are mostly in fields with hay. Now I have been hunting before and found 1 cube in a field, but then went back later when it rained and they were everywhere. Usually if you find at least one, you should be able to find more then or later.

Generally, the field should be well drained with no flooded areas. It should have lots of cow shit on it. You need to go at night, thats when the temp drops and they fruit although people do find shrooms in the early day. If you see mushrooms, its a good sign and it means the farmer isnt using fungicide. Just keep looking, I searched about five fields and walked as many miles before my first find. And it was just bunk Cope look-a-likes that I found, although I still question myself to this day...

Twisted the average life of shrooms is 24 to 48 hrs so yes you can go pic a field over and return merely hours later and find a few more, but you can also go to a field and leave them cause you dont have anything to put em' in and return hours later and many of them will be rotten or gone.

foggy morning, moist nights, hay, a little sun but not a lot, are all good conditions but you can find em at other times just keep lookin' eventually you'll do what I did, I went to a field at least a dozen times and usually only found 20 or so but often found none till a it rained one morning and the sun came up a little that afternoon and I went the next morning(it was foggy) right after the sun came out, I stepped over the fence and counted 22 from where i stood, I picked the whole field and found 106(damn good find!) and when you do find a producing field tap the top of every shroom lightly before you pick it to drop the spores and your field will keep producing.
