SWIM gave me a disk with these pictures on them. They said that the plants were switched to the budding cycle just a few days ago. No buds yet, as you can see. It looks to me like its too early to determine sex, too, but I?m not an expert.

What kind of light are you growing them under?

SWIM is growing these 10 plants under two fluorescent ballasts. Each ballast is 2 feet long and has 2 fluorescent bulbs. An individual bulb was added to each side of the group of plants now that they're budding. One is a "grow bulb" and the other is a spiraled fluorescent.
SWIM is wondering if this will be a suitable amount of light, keeping in mind that the males still need to be removed.

When using flourescent lights you should induce flowering when the plants are 1ft. tall. Plants can double their size when flowering. Flourescent lights don't penetrate the foliage well enough to have big plants. Keep the lights as close to the plants as possible to get the best results.

Some of those plants in the 2nd pic look like males. They're a bit lanky/stemmy with long internodal space. For flowering, HPS light would be best, but I've heard people have done it with flourescent too.

Thank you both very much for the info. SWIM has been keeping the lights 2-4 inches from the tops of the plants. SWIM will bud the plants earlier next time, as they are all over 1 foot in height. SWIM also has one more ballast that can be put in. He's considering putting it on the floor, shining up. Maybe this will help counter-act the fact that the plants are a little larger than optimal.
And SWIM will definitely keep an eye on the lanky plants with longer node spacing. Thanks again!

Flourescent light diffuese too much after 1ft from source so be sure everything is within that distance to to get all the light in needs to create the magic pungency.
