growing peruvian torch, san pedro, and trichocereus bridgesii from seed 4 dummies
    #7224788 -

ok first we start with our soil mix. i am using 1 part sand to 1 part perlite to 1 part top soil to 1 part humus manure compost.

then we prepair our planter.

i have cut my planter for storage so i fill it section at a time and level it off with a trowel.

when im finished filling the cells i lightly sprinkle the seeds on the surface.

then we prepair the sprayer to spray the humidity dome for this planter.

we make sure the lid is nice and moist but not too saturated.

i then place the lid on the planter and place it in a window facing the west.

then when the seeds germinate remove the humidity dome and mist the cells to keep them moist at all times untill the cacti get big enough to start cycling dry spells into there watering schedual.

what soil mix do you sugest? i know 1 part vermiculite 1 part perlite and 1 part sand works. these cacti contain mescaline, and other psychedelic hallucinogens green chemical. they are legal to grow as ornamental plants.

1 part verm, 1 part perlite and 1 part sand ???

where are all the micro nutrients/nutrients in a mix of that sort???

organic humus
soft rock phosphate
green sand
fish meal
worm castings
perlite
coarse washed sand (not just SAND)
i also add a few other goodies but not in any big amounts.

also verm holds moister and i dont like to use it in cacti soil (which you want to drain and not stay wet) also i never use manure or manure + humus unless the manure has been composted!!

almost any mix will work but dont you want your cacti to grow the most they can,

good luck

the verm perlite sand, dont ask me i found it on another forum... i would only use that mix to germinate seedlings, and it does work. everything i use is easy to find at walmart. the manure + humus is pre composted and bagged as is the top soil.

this is about a year old seedling that was grown as previously described, and transplanted to a larger container.
