Why "demystified"?

The sub-title of Shroomery reads "Magic Mushrooms Demystified".
What does that mean? What is it supposed to mean?
Should magic mushrooms be demystified? Can they be demystified? Is there no mystery?
Terence McKenna said once that a mystery is not an unsolved problem. A mystery always remains a mystery. Are magic mushrooms mysterious? Or are they something to be solved and demystified?

For a person who knows nothing about magic mushrooms they probably are a mystery.

The life cycle of mushrooms is mysterious. And once you start growing, it's even more mysterious.
Spores don't have gender, but they do have 'mating types'. And cubensis has four mating types- but you only need to have two of them to have them mate. That's one mystery.

How "demystified"? [Re: Siphersh]

What I am interested in is people's thoughts about the mysterious nature of the mushroom experience. The question about the Shroomery subtitle is just to start somewhere. That's why I put it in the Psychedelic Experience forum.
But now, that it's in the Feedback forum, it's also an interesting question if the site managers find that subtitle fitting to the function of the Shroomery.
Is there any demystifying going on?
Does the mushroom experience generally appear less mysterious to people who know more about its growing and know more about other people's experiences?
I don't know what "demystified" refers to in the title of the mentioned book. But does it refer to increasing scientific awareness in the subtitle of Shroomery? I don't know how much intentionality was behind chosing that subtitle. Maybe not much at all. I am asking about any refelections on the possible implications of this proposition of demystification.
And also, what do you think: Do most of the people on Shroomery consider the mushroom experience a mystery, or do they rather consider it something that can be demystified by proper understanding?

Yes. The demystification crusade started many moons ago in a small box in Papaver's garage. We created the d-meter, short for demystify-meter, to help find troubled souls that were suffering from over-mystification. By asking a series of questions and testing with the d-meter, we are able to tell how many mystifications have become attached to a persons soul. Through generous donations to our site these pour souls can be demystified. In extreme cases we force the process by exposing people to the OTD forum, the ultimate demystification experience.

I was just always surprised that it says "magic mushrooms" right there on the banner, as opposed to something not drug related. Always seemed like a bit of a risk to me.

We are protected by the 1st amendment of the US Constitution for freedom of press. We do not sell mushroom supplies; we do not advocate growing mushrooms where it is illegal; we do not conspire to help people break the law; we simply try to educate people about the true benefits and dangers (such as misidentification) of mushrooms. Also, "Magic Mushrooms" are not illegal across the entire globe; only in bass ackward countries that enjoy depriving their citizens of ownership of their own bodies.

So it's not a high priority issue or anything, but I've been thinking about this lately and I wonder if it's time to change our tagline. I was just curious, do people have a strong preference or any of their own suggestions?

I voted for Shroomery - Comprehensive Mushroom Information, because i hate mushrooms being called magic. There is nothing "magic" about them.
We are talking about biology and chemistry here, not witchcraft.

Crazy to bump this subject after all these years!
Honestly, I still love the tagline that exists now. I just love the word "Demystified". However, I think it might be cool to change it to "Psychedelic Mushrooms Demystified". Might have to use multiple lines to fit in in with the logo but I think id be pretty cool.

actually this was in last weeks trip for me, thinking of the Shroomery.
i really dislike "magic mushrooms demystified" because though the intent is good, on our site "demystifying the magic" has become a debate structure which is cold, overanalytical.
example thought:
disenchanting the enchanted forest.
do we really need to demystify magic?
I have given it some thought..
First of all it needs to be impactful, so that limits it to 2-3 words. that nukes most of your ideas. big brands have slogans like forsprung durch technik, just do it, just say no, not even once, tam-tam-tam like our old slogan.
What impresses me most about the shroomery is its internastional community of mushroom people, online 24/7 to help you with whatever, the things we do for each other, create va pictorial for a n00b, its off the charts.
magic? randi psychedelic? hippie haters entheogenic? atheists.
listen to this:
Worldwide Mushroom Tribe
join the worldwide mushroom tribe. you know what kinda mushrooms but your oysters and morels and reishii can come too. we love mushrooms, we are worldwide, round the clock and we are galvanized as a tribe, you are a shroomerite, you belong to a cohesive community and we invite community behavior. it honors the world, it honors the www, it honors mushrooms of all kinds no one left out, and it honors the tribal organisation of mankinds, and cultures centered around entheogens, traditional and modern, urban tribe.
you wanbt to be on your good behavior in your tribe, your online community, all over the world honoring all things Mushroom.
There are no culinary mushroom tribes, the implied meaning is clear.
but how it looks on merch! they become gang colors, you are part of a mushroom tribe, something deeper than a random suburbanite. it doesnt shout magic mushrooms but signals brotherhood, community, secret society,
fb, reddit, are anonymous metropolis. we are a tribe, personal and customized with exceptions to every rule.
the heart opened our hearts, Worldwide Mushroom Tribe opens the doors toi those seeking their tribe, young people, new trippers, outcasts.
you are all welcome.
isn't that more powerful than demystfying the mystery?
big hug for lil 15yo Ythan for his great slogan but this one strikes the root more profoundly, i think.
in a demystified disenchanted shattered world, we provide access tp the Mystery and Community.

I like demystified, makes it sound like we're trying to understand the nature of the effects of psychedelics. That part of the tagline has always appealed to me. When you first experience it, it's such a mystery, and you want understanding, so I think that draws people in.
If we had to change it, maybe something that holds onto that desire for knowledge and understanding.
Or, we could have a tagline that specifically mentions harm reduction. We always talk about harm reduction, but technically it's not part of our official tagline or anything.
