just saw a gnat...
    #7217409 - 07/24/07 10:17 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

how to keep fungus gnats out? i don't want it to breed there, i'll try to catch it. i used "search" and there were lots of hits but i wondered if since 2003 has anyone found a sure way to kill gnats? i saw lots of ideas being thrown around, wondered if there's a good way available now.

it's more then likely a drain fly.

clear your drains, the u trap, stuff sits in it, and drain fly's thrive in it.

Where are you possibly getting that? He didn't even describe the flies, lol. Fungal gnats are pretty common. I find that hanging fly paper and a trap or two does the trick.

There are bacterial treatments, that will work as well. Search around for "fungal gnat" and "bacteria"

fly? or gnat? Big size difference there.

There's all sorts of buggers living around your house, if you give them space to thrive, they will.

like i said, it's probably and more then likely a drain fly.
He hasn't been cultivating in the same spot for long enough to accumulate fungal gnats.. again, how do i know this? I don't really, but for fucks sake, either he's doing thousands of pftek cakes, or leaving them laying around when they're spent, asking gnats to set in..

so, it's prbly a drain fly.

Put a half drunk beer in there! It will drown it's self. They can't help but get piss drunk, just like slugs.

Fruit flies are small and black. I have serious problems with fruit flies. RAID will do it, get a bug bomb and remove all of your cakes prior to bombing.

has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter
has moistened with His own sacred tears." - Kahlil Gibran

nice, thanks for all your help. actually the beer idea sounds great because i've seen that happening with flies. if that doesn't help then i'll RAID them. and there are only a few cakes in there, and the old ones are thrown away right after last harvest.

Couple of spiders should take care of your gnats nicely.
