 Fucking Hospitals...

They're nothing but god damn theives. I just got my hospital bill from the other night when I spent a couple hours in the hospital after spraining my ankle. The bill is 200 dollars! And for what? I have to pay 200 dollars for sitting on my ass for 2 hours waiting to be talked to and a flimsy little bandage that they wrapped around my foot. Thank god I was able to refuse an x ray or who knows how much it would cost. How can they get away with this, I was taken against my will and now I have to fucking pay them. Is there any way I can just sort of say fuck you and not pay? What would happen if I did?

how where you taken against your will?
anyway, hospitals have to charge you ridiculously so they can cover their insurance. People love to sue hospitals.

That's fucked up.
I have a friend whose relative got into real bad car accident with some doped up drug addict in Spain. She was totally immobilized. She was treated horribly in the hospital there. Her relatives here in Estonia had to pay over $3000 to get her back here so she could be hospitalized here.

Well I went from police custody to the hospital rather then straight home as I would have preferred. I should have declined treatment but it was my first hospital visit without my parents and I wasn't sure what to do

If you think a $200 hospital bill is bad, you've seen nothing. A $200 bill will be easy to pay off someday, but some people have bills up in the hundreds of THOUSANDS of dollars that they'll never be able to pay. Dying in debt.

I got a bill that was over $2000 just for an infection under my skin by my ear lobe. It was swollen and red so they put me on an IV with some antibiotics in it and gave me a couple of pain pills. Not to mention I had to wait there all night because they had 5 trauma patients come in when I did so I got put on the back of the list and had to wait all night. That's all they did is made me wait all night, put me on and IV and gave me a couple of pills. I didn't even see a DR becasue it got too late and they just referred me to another doctor outside of the hospital which I had to pay extra for. My total bill for this is over $3000 and it was just a small infection by my ear. They didn't even do anything but prescribe me pills. It's bullshit. I don't know how they get away with this shit. It's fucking robbery is what it is. Plus, if you don't pay, they send you to collection agencies and fuck up your credit. It's like they force you to be treated and then they force you to pay outrageous prices for the treatment. You can't win either way.

Yeah I know that it's not that bad. But for a starving college student it's still more then I'd rather pay for jack shit. Someday I hope I can break a hospital with a lawsuit. Justice would be oh so sweet.

do you think hospitals are free? do you think other people should pay for your health concerns?
other people's time costs money, a sterile building with bright lights and rooms with medical equipment cost money, bandages and xrays cost money
if you don't like paying for your health, don't go to a hospital, they cost money

the VP where I work is 73, he was having chest pains, went to the hospital abd
even though he didnt have a heart attack they did a 'pre-emptive' triple bypass,
he's got a scar that leads from his chest all the way to his wallet

Umm... yeah, you must have missed the part where I didn't want to go. I didn't call 911, but I was injured running from the police, the police had an ambulance pick me up and bring me to the hospital.

Reading things like this make me just that more appreciative of Canada's health-care system.
Really though, it could be a lot worse than $200 as some people are saying. It still sucks though yeah.
