Best Tek for newb...

I was GOING to use the PF tek....but after doing a little bit of research, it seems like some of you might not find that to be the easiest/worthwhile for a newbie?
I have no problem doing another tek, I want to have enough success with my first grow that I don't loose hope and give up.
I guess I'm just interested to see what you guys think works best.
THANKS

I think any way you choose to incubate and spawn your mycelium is fine, I just try to tell people to try to do something small, managable and *manual* for their first grow. That means manual filtered air exchange, manual humidification, etc.
Trying to automate everything on your first try gets really complicated and doesn't give you the opportunity to really see how and what is happening along the way.

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.

Eh, it's actually pretty easy and forgiving. You could step to grains if you have a pressure cooker tho, and you should go buy one, if you don't already have one, because you will eventually go to grains anyway. If you don't have one though, just go ahead and do the PF, it's a good solid tek for beginners.

I'm on my first grow and I'm using the PFtek with a few slight changes, nothing big though. I may move to casing at some point down the road, but I think PF is really great for a newb. It teaches you all the basics of shroom growing. Plus, It's kinda hard to mess up. Contamination would be your worst enemy, as always, but beyond that the tek is pretty simple. I recommend it.

Yeah, I'm going to keep it easy. Only like 10 1/2 pt. jars.
How many syringes should I get for that?
Also...should I buy one extra and try doing LC with it???

PFtek needs an update. Best advice for a newbie:
No drip shields. (No one uses drip shields, and they're a bitch to make.)
No incubation. (It will hurt more than it will help. High 70s is ideal, not low/mid 80s.)
Drip shields will rob you of FC space, while incubation will cost you money (I shelled out an unnecessary $30 on an aquarium heater at first, and $10 on the tubs) and potentially increase your risk of contamination.
Other than that, go for it. Most people have to figure this stuff out for themselves anyway, since all the good information out there is spread between twenty different teks. Kind of a shame, really.

eh one syringe would easily do 10 1/2 pints and an LC, but you can get two if you want. Sporeworks has a great package where they pick 4 syringes for you, and it's only $32 USD, not to mention typing "shroomery" in the memo generally scores you a free 3rd syringe.
And def get into LC, you won't regret it.

One syringe can do ten half-pints.
An LC can be created with 1/10th of a syringe, though (1cc). If you plan to make more cakes ever after this batch, make an LC before you knock up the jars. It will save you a lot of money in case you can't get a viable jar for printing.

Yeah it's kind of intimidating for me because I don't even know anyone who grows shrooms, so it's like I'm all on my own + internet with this.
But some of the LC Teks on here looked pretty easy and I'm all about not having to keep buying that shit online.
Is LC like another form of spore printing, just easier??
(sorry if thats a stupid Q)

Eh not really. You are basically growing the mycelium in a liquid suspended culture. the karo or whatever nutrient you decide to use allows for growth. LC's are great because they really speed up colonization time, as the spores are already germinated, and can thus start growing. It's kinda the same idea as grain to grain, except less chance for contaminants.

Oh yeah, LC's also last a lot longer in the fridge than large jars of colonized grains.

And also you can make enough inoculant with one LC to keep you growing for years to come without ever buying another spore syringe, as long as it stays clean.
Basically it's a bunch of sterilized weak sugar-water that's knocked up with one or two ccs of spores. The spores colonize the water, which you then suck up and use as your inoculant, just like you would a spore solution.
Follow the teks, though, that's just a rough description, not a guideline for making one.

hmmm yer right. The four pack is for spores to collect, not cultivate. Either way, if you want to check it out, it's $34 for a four pack. Link is: http://sporeworks.com/store/catalog/Psilocybe-cubensis--Our-Choice-Special-Limit-four-syringes-per-p-16196.html
