Tao should guide us
but if the Tao is lost
we have Te;
if Te is lost
we have humanist virtues;
if humanist virtues are lost
we have a feeling for what is righteous;
if a feeling for what is righteous is lost
we have ceremonial;
and ceremonial is the beginning of chaos.

-lao tzu

if this shit gets repetitive then be sure to flame me!

heh no but seriously. Basically, we should naturally act/respond/live. naturally as in innately. not that we should, but lao tzu seems to make the argument of innate, or instinctual, ability greater than humanistic virtues... maybe the morals, we, as humans, are drilled with by society to act a certain way. perhaps a more humane way for the 'society'.

anyhow, yeah at least that's my take on it, anyone else care to elaborate further or revise with something completely different?

hehe, doesn't it say in the first pages the Tao that can be written or spoken is not the absolute Tao.

Going off instinct will get you more in tune with the way things are/go. I don't know how much you go out for walks or hiking in the woods but all you need to learn about tao is in nature.

There's no answer to what tao is except be your untainted self. As in an abstraction of all external influences... society, peers, tv....

anyhow, yeah i could be totally wrong but that's my take on pointing to tao
