B+ Consistant pinset problem...
    #7210074 - 07/22/07 01:20 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Ok, I know this may seem like a newbie question, but i really have been doing this for a LONG time, years and with the more advanced methods. The problem is when I use the B+ strain, I can NEVER get an even or decent pinset, not the case with other strains...it just usually has a few (2-3) groupings of large fruits, alot of time closer to the sides...I know how to lay out a substarte and case to encourage an even pinset, and it dosnt pull away from the sides of the container to start the pinning there....just can't seem to get an even growth on my square footage with this strain...I'm really kind of dumbfounded here, any and all help would be so much appreciated...

Well if you are doing everything correctly try cloning a cluster of fruits that should guarantee that you have an excellent fruiting strain then try and see if that works.

yeah if you're still dealing with multispore, and not a clone, you'll never get a consistent pinset, i've seen a few, but they are very far and few between.

Over incubate at each step to be sure the mycelium has full control of everything before the next step. Do this especially before casing. This way, you won't have some uncolonized places deep inside that draw its attention from colonizing the casing.

Rather than patch your sub before you fruit, use a fork and a gentle touch to redistribute the casing layer. In other words, move the casing material from the spots without mycelium popping up to cover the parts that have it. It's like reverse leaf raking. Give it a day back in incubation and then fruit.

When you have even mycelial growth appearing in the casing layer, give it a pretty good spray to mat the stuff down. The stuff closer to the surface will take more of a hit than the stuff still growing underneath.

Use an isolate. This will fix the multispore irregularity mentioned above. Don't peek between steps. Switch casing materials. Make sure you incubate in high CO2 levels. Use bright lighting that will penetrate deeper into the casing to hit more mycelium.

What will incubating at high levels of CO2 do?

only when you want it to pin Fea is one of the pinning triggers. Full colonization being the biggest then Fae and high humidity followed by light.

The sudden burst of fresh air will trigger pins. In the natural world, this would be where the mycelium hits the surface of the ground.

Oh, and you do want some FAE during incubation, otherwise they will rot. Are we talking about fruiting PF jars?
