Rye grain

So I've always bought this because it's what I first bought and has always worked:

But would this be the same thing:

What throws me is that they are in different sections... but seem the same to me. The one I usually get is out of stock

No its not the same. You can use the grass seed, but it is harder to get the moisture content right. Look at your local health food stores. You want Rye Berries. I don't know if you have a Central Market where you live, but they sell Winter Wheat Berries, which are just as good as Rye berries.

Thanks for your fast responce. Glad I asked instead of just ordering. Would this work in the same process as rye (ie: soak, rinse, simmer, rinse, pressure cook)?

yep, thats the basic principle, but as stated above, its harder to get its moisture content right for the rye grass seed... its also better suited to sclerotia formation, ala mexicana, tampensis, etc
as for the millet, yes, thats a perfectly suitable grain to grow on, and yes, same principles apply, just variances in boil/soak/etc times if im not mistaken, millet is used in alot of commercially bought spawn, since its superior to other grains in number of inoculation points via individual grains.

MycoSupply says to PC for 1 hour and 10 mins @ 15 PSI... same as rye (I always go slightly over 1 hr). And obviously rinsing is the same.
But about the simmering... I usually follow magash's rye tek to the T because it's the first I tried years ago and has always worked. Except he says boil up to 45 mins and RR's rye tek says up to 25 mins. I've tried both teks on this part and had better luck with RR's... so this is the only step I take of magash's path. Any suggestions on how long to simmer this millet sead?
After I get advice on this I'm ready to go with it. Thanks in advance!

with any grain, you simmer until you get the max moisture content without exploding the kernels of grain.
the times on boiling vary, because everyones setup and grain and parameters are different.
in my experience, if you boil for 5 minutes, remove from heat, and let soak in the boiled water for another 30-40, its about perfect. which, that conforms to both magash and RR.

Thank you again and to everyone else who has helped. I'm ready to give this millet grain a go. It's also about $15 cheaper on their site compared to their rye grain when you buy 50 lb bags... so if it works well it might be worth a go from now on. So yet again, thanks everyone...

the rye grass seed is better suited for sclerotia forming mushrooms like philosophers stones, stick to the rye berries for cubensis.
as a side note, my local grocery store carries corn and oats for $8/50lbs, you might also want to look localy for your needs
