    #7208145 - 07/21/07 09:48 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

i have a good couple dozen jars I had in storage with old dead cakes inside em, all nice and black and aged mold(black). It should be fine to dump cakes and thoroughly wash jars out in dishwasher, right? I don't see why not. had to ask though. thnx

Was with hot soapy water and scrub thoroughly.
It wouldn't hurt to wipe them out with an alcohol wipe or a piece of paper towel soaked with isopopyl first, and again before filling them
Should have no problems.

Say wash in dishwasher, then make my substrate and put in jars and then pc like regular? If there is any surviving mold spores they will be killed during that pc session. No sense in pc'n twice??

Why is that necessary. What's a PC gonna kill that an alcohol wipe won't?

Now what is cool is I am moving out of current place soon so spreadin of any mold spores around isn't much of a concern being I will be out and in a new clean apt to start a fresh grow. Got jars in dishwasher for now. so should I fill jars with water When I pc or just leavem empty and no lid? Don't want to crack jars.

I dumped old substrate in a bag outside and threw bag away. Hosed out jars, then soaked in soapy hot sink water for a while, then wiped clean with rag and rinsed then stuck in dishwasher. I believe I sneezed twice during process.

nice so the clothes that you were wearing when you whent back into the house were covered in mold spores same with your hair and skin. This is the reason that you pc the jar first to kill those spores then empty the jars.

not to be a doomsayer or whatever
but even if you dont care about spreading mold into your house, you should care, AT THE LEAST, about your health.
im sure you're fine this time, but lemme tell ya, continue to dispose of jars in that method, and ill start to recall those few posts of people who ended up in emergency rooms with thousands of dollars of doctors bills, all because they breathed some funky spores in.
dont believe it could happen? ..start searching some old posts for 'mold' and 'sick'

Any even questionable jar I find gets a 90 min thrill ride at 15psi before they get dumped..may not be 100% necessary but its piece of mind:yesnod:

Wow, great, and I I wonder if the next apartment you move into the old owner felt the exact same, letting black and brown molds proliferate because he doesn't care, he's moving out.

Also, sneezing from mold spores probably isn't so good, there are several deadly molds, usually black and brown molds.

You might be ok this time, but what about next, or what about other people health?

I have some reallly old moldy jars, i think blackish mold, that have been sitting in my incubator for like a year, i know i know, im fuckin lazy as shit.

I don't have a PC, but understand that proper disposal is important, how would i go about it? I think i may just toss the jars and buy new ones, i mean they are only like 12$ or something. it's not worth my time. ok, i've convinced myself to buy new jars, never mind then, haha.

You should be okay with using a mild solution of bleach. Soak the jars in a bucket of water for about 30-60 minutes. Then put them in the dishwasher!

No because when you open the jar it releases millions of mold spores.
