First Bulk Grow. Need Suggestions.

I just went to this horse breeder up the road, asked for some poo for my "garden". This guy gave me 5, 5gallon buckets of last years horse poo. Even offered me his fourwheeler to drive it from the manure pile to my car trunk. Never even seen this guy before, gotta luv those good ol'boys.
Anyway, I have a bale of weedeated straw and 12 quarts of WBS colonizing now. Also have a 50gallon tub and a coolmist.
Need ideas on how much straw/hpoo ratio, best way to pasturize a large amount of this substrate, and any other idea or suggestions you all have.
PS. I'm new and have only grew BRF cakes, but plan to pull this off with no problems. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

most horse owners have to pay to have their manure hauled off, you're saving him money lol...

just make sure the substrate to poo ratio is pretty smaill.
if not it will take longer, which put syou at risk of contams.
good luck, get some pics goin

you basically want to do 50/50 mix poo/straw.. you'll be needing some nitrogen, so add 3% chicken poop by weight...
be sure it's superbly composted. If you have it laying around, some vermiculite, some coir, some coffee grounds, etc.. all make great additives...

would have mycelium substrate into spawn ratio been better?
Ive seen people try and colonize a huge amount of shit with a pint jar, doesn't work

poo is the substrate, spawn is your medium containing mycelium, be it brf cakes or grains.

i thought the 12 jars he has is his sub., which is spawned into the poo.
i thought the bulk sub is identified as spawn
and you diddent have to be so mean, it was just advice

OK, 50/50 ratio. I have a bag of verm to add to it, and looking into some coffee grounds. Is nitrogen (chicken poo) absolutely necessary? Does the trashcan full of hot showerwater work very well, for pasteurizing? Does the verm. and coffee grounds get added before or after pasteurization? Appreciate the help.

nitrogen yes, chicken poo no. Coffee grounds will be all the nitrogen you need in this respect...one or the other or a little of both I suppose, but don't overload it. To me chicken poo has got to be the most corrosive shit on the plant, no pun intended. Every time I've used it in the garden it's burned the hell out of my plants.
no the trashcan of hot shower-water does not work for pasteurization. I wouldn't expect your hot-water supply to be set higher than 120-140(F) at most and considering you have to get the internal temps of the substrate between 140-160(F) degrees and you're not going to do that with shower water in a trashcan. I'd recommend hitting up the {SEARCH} functionality on ways to accomplish the pasteurizing...
I need to go make breakfast... ;-p

I was talking about the tek, turn water heater up to 160F, add boiling water until temps hit 180F.
I used the search, but only found small amounts of substrate being pasturized, I would like to pasturize 2-5GL buckets of poo and a half a bale of shredded straw all at once.
Any Ideas?

Does the verm and coffee grounds get pasturized also? Or is that added afterwards?
Anyone use the oven bags full of substrate and water tek? Does it work very well? Dont really want a big pot of shit cooking on the stove.
Any comments could help.

Funny, I couldn't find a way around it and had to cook 30lbs of composted cow poo in about 9 bags. Took all night long and ended up chasing my wife and kid into their rooms! Didn't really bother me as much as it bothered them.

Does verm and coffe go in before or after pasturizing? Do I pasturize it all together?

I pretty much pasteurize all of them together.or if i have to much and cant do it all together i do it in separate pots then once cool just mix all the subs together with my spawn.

OK Thanks. Can always count on xax.
Ohh Ya, Do I need to soak the straw for 24 hours (the straw I'm mixing with poo). Or is mixing it with poo then pasteurizing it sufficient?
