it's fine to keep things tidy, if you're really worried, toss some plastic over it for a couple hours

keeping the fruiting chamber several feet off the ground should be sufficient provided you have enough free-air exchange. Most nasty contaminates need somewhat "stagnant" conditions to thrive...

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.

i don't know how much of a difference it actually makes but i always make a point to buy hepa rated bags for my vacuum. the air being kicked back out is at least clean then.

doesn't help much. You're filtering out a minute part of the air, but you're still disturbing the airflow, and stirring up 1000 spores for each you vacumn up. Doubt it's "HEPA" either...they like to slap that on a lot of stuff.

Edit: OP, once you have a colonized cake, contaminants will really 99% of the time come from other vectors. I leave my tubs in some assuredly sporey air, and I think I've had one contaminant, ever, that emerged after full colonization. Don't worry about it
