Ok, so i have heard that the polyfill is not really even necessary, could i just tucktape some fine mesh.. or like a windows screen over the holes? i think it would be easier.. and look nicer.
also... my monotubs tend to dry out a bit... what should i do about that?

I have found that using polyfil does reduce air exchange but if done correctly you get a perfect balance between humidity and fae.If the holes are open or even with a mesh screen you might get too much humdiity loss which then you would have to mist and it would be basically like a super large terrarium.monotubs/dt's are supposed to be a set it forget it system.

Well, RR has stated that he does not like Polyfill. Personally I don't see any reason for the fine mesh. Either use the polyfill or leave it wide open, since the mesh won't do much of anything, as to keeping things out.
I still use polyfill, but once your substrate is FULLY colonized it is very resistant to contams. So here is an idea. How about the best of both worlds type deal. Stuff one or two holes with polyfill during colonization and tape up the other holes in the mean time. Once substrate is fully colonized and ready for fruiting remove tape and polyfill.
I've never done this myself, it just seems more logical. I've see grows done with no lid after substrate is fully colonized with great success. Again never done it myself yet. I do plan on trying this eventually. When I'm finished with my other experiments.

I use tyvek. Cut tyvek to the size of your holes and use pieces of ducktape to hold it in place.

I remember reading about how polyfill was better than tyvek in a mono tub situation, and even though I hate the stuff I think that may be correct, although if you plan of uncovering the holes completely after full colonization than I think the tyvek would do just fine,I just may have to try it both ways side by side and make comparisons

I use polyfill, my friend uses tyvek but he also has a hepafilter in his w/ his tubs. Anyway his tubs seem to do better than mine. But I dunno if its the tyvek that makes the difference, or if he's just better at it than I am.
