wtf is the prob with my tubs
    #7203166 - 07/20/07 04:10 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

I've never had so much trouble in my years of growing. One of the tubs that survived the first run (others where destroyed by trichs) was fully and healthily colonized when i cased it. Its been over a week and the mycelium has refused to continue growth. Now their is a small light patch of fuzz that I know is a trich. I provide usually one FAE (i know it could use more, but i've never had a problem b4) a day. Temp is ample. Complete darkness provided. What more can I do? I use popcorn to spawn poo/straw mix. Give me some ideas.

do you pasteurize properly? Sometimes if you over heat your substrate it will sterilize it and Trich loves sterilized substrates. Keep your temps between 150-160 for 2 hours. I've found that 170 can be too much.

Do you test your P.H. levels?

FAE is the most important thing used to avoid Trich.

I've always pasteurized at 170, but now that im using straw that may be a problem. And I only pasteurize for 1 hour. I will definitely use this advice. No, I've never tested ph.

These guys are all right, proper pasteurization technique is crucial.. do this to sub and casing, or mean green will not be nice to you. Also be as sterile as possible when spawning, I wipe my trays with alcohol because I frequently had tric start around the sides, I also NEVER use foil now, I would rather have side pins than open stale pockets of air for tric to thrive.

FAE is the MOST important factor to keep tric at bay.. fanning will never ever be enough to consistently fight tric. you need many many many holes like Roger Rabbit suggests, as well as somthing circulating air, to keep humidity up you will need 3-4 inchs of PROPERLY hydrated perlite.

Ph balancing things is a good step as well.

Last but not least temperature, mold LOVES 80's, do not allow your trays to be in temps above 80, 74-76 is optimal.
