Massive LC Questions

I would do a bunch of smaller LC at the same time but I only have one magnetic stirrer.
So I need enough LC to inoc around 15 Pounds of WBS. Is it a bad idea to do a massive LC like a gallon? Any reasons why? I never see it done so I'm figuring theres a reason
Last when a LQ is done is there a gallon of LC? When I look at pics it looks like people say a LC is done when the bottom quarter is done. Is there a reason why people dont let the whole jar colonize with LC?

WHOA!!!!!! 15 pounds! You aren't playing around are you!
OK here is what I recommend. Get some baby bottles and make up like 3 LCs with honey water. Once you get a viable LC use it to transfer to your large LC. This way you know you have a good LC on your hand. People do gallons of LC all the time. Make sure you have a good lid for it.
I would recommend the RTV silicon and high temp tubing method.

Thanks TrippinTeddy ... you have been alot of help. Sounds like a good idea, I'll make up 3 or 4 baby bottles using agars tek and then transfer them to a gallon jar using the tube w/ polyfill method.

One more thing,
Do I need to use a gallon canning jar? I was hoping there would be some way to use a pickle jar or something. I saw agars tek and he just silicones the seal and then used to rubber tubes commin out the top.
So the question is ...Is a canning jar required or can I use some other type of gallon jar?

I imagine any jar with a lid will work fine.

Just make sure you get your LC ratios right. 100ml of water to one teaspoon of Honey.
Good luck man.

Or if you have a scale, 4% honey, 96% H20...

Just FYI, 12 lbs for 25 minutes cracked my pickle jar. It was on the spacer in the cooker as were the other jars. I don't think they're designed for hi temps.

with a large volume it is best to make a smaller "starter" culture. This is what brewers do. If you inject spores into a large volume they get "lost". Start a small one, then when thick inject into the big one.
