How long do contams usually take to kick in?

It's been 6 days since I filled my jars. (5 days since inoculating, if that makes a difference)
My question is...assuming that I will not be opening my jars at all till birthing (which I won't) is it safe to say that none of my jars were contaminated?

Generally, contams catch a hold much quicker than mycelium does. After six days, you should be alright in most cases. However, this is not a guarantee. If the contamination is in the middle of the jar, you won't know as quickly. Also, like cheor said, just because you don't see it doesn't mean its not there. Just keep you eyes and nose open. Contam can seemingly come out of nowhere at any point in the growth cycle.

Not to burst your bubble but sometimes you won't know until you go to birth. Especially if you are new to this and don't really know what you are looking at. Some contams have a whitish myc that looks similar to the mushrooms. I was fooled when I first started but there's a separation from each other that you can see once you get a little experience. Like moon_glue said "wait and see". And try to leave them alone for awhile! gl

Would I be able to smell it when the jars are sealed? I've got them stored in a black bag right now, and whenever I unzip it I don't smell anything.

I believe it's bacterial contams that you can smell while they are still closed. I don't have personal experience with those so wait until someone who has replies.
Why do you smell something? If you don't then just relax, there's nothing you can do for awhile. Go work on your fc or something!

its ridiculous hard for a first time grower to have patience, i know cause I'm in the same boat, I had to have someone hide the key for my incubator and not tell me where it is for any reason.
regarding the topic, contams will either halt growth or inhibit growth from harping at all, besides the whole smell/color.
so open yo eyes as-well
i just threw out a spore-works mycobag...
