Crazy Idea....Why would this not work?

Suppose someone had an oven cooking bag like they sell at every grocery store. Fill that sucker with Rye or WBS or even poop. Put it in the oven at like 350 F for 30 mins. Take it out and let it cool to room temp.,better yet let it cool in the oven. Take one of those medicated band aids and stick it to the outside of the bag. Inoculate it with a full syringe of Liquid culture through the medicated band aid.....

For me the world is weird because it is stupendous, awesome, mysterious, unfathomable;my interest has been to convince you that you must assume responsibility for being here, in this marvelous world,in this marvelous desert,in this marvelous time. I wanted to convince you that you must learn to make every act count, since you are going to be here for only a short while;in fact, too short for witnessing all the marvels of it.

but there is a process for the grain before you just fill a bag and toos it in a oven, prepare the grains and the bag right first and it will work and there are a few teks here for it.

Make sure that is a 350 core temp for 30 min. Dry heat ovens can take a long time to heat 1 or 2 lbs to 350 at the core.

i was thinking about substituting the oven bag for a large tyvek envelope. i think it could really work, just need to figure out a way to know when it's colonized.

and also the water from the substrate would turn the tyvek into a giant sponge, wicking contaminants from the air.

Water boils @ 212F and anything that conatains water is not going to get any hotter than that (add more heat it will just boil faster @212) , so long as there is still water to boil off. unless its under presser,, witch is the whole point of a presser cooker is that it alows you to increase the temp pass 212 ,, @15 psi i beleave its running around 259f or some thing close to that,
if you take a bunch of rye and put it in a an oven bag for 30 min it WILL NOT work,, for one thing thats hafe the time people cook quart jars under presser. there are billions of endospores per ounce of grain and thay are very tuff,, of you simmered the grain for an Hr and then baked it for 1.5 to 2 hrs it may work , but why not just get a presser cooker if you are serious about this hobby,, there is no equal substitute

Yes, yes, and yes.
If it has water in it, it's not getting over 212F until the water boils out of it. If the water is boiling out of it, you're defeating the purpose.
STEAM, DON'T COOK. The dial may say 350, but the substrate is not hitting 350. It's really hitting 212F, which you can do in the steam-pot easily, without ruining your water balance.
Thank you. Can we please stop it with these non-teks? If you want to try to perfect dry sterilization of grains, go for it, give it your best shot, but this kind of thinking is the result of a lack of basic physics education.
Also, you don't sterilize poop. You pasteurize it. Please, read and experiment before you make more posts like this, and I encourage everybody else who's just starting out to do the same.

Heating wet rye to 350F will make a very dry, bad tasting rye bread. You want to sterilize the rye, not cook it. Use a pressure cooker. RR
