pasteurize a casing(165*-170*). Never sterilize.

No prob. Steaming is an excellent way to bring it to moisture and kill off bad microbes in the soil, while saving beneficial micro's.

Check out wild bird seed teks. Much more efficient than pf and way easier. Colonizing quart jars in 7-10 days. Rather than 30 days for a 1/2 pint.

Quick summary; Forget the really small 1/2 pints. Get at least quart size. Rinse well and soak some wbs, stain, air dry for 30 min.. Fill jars 3/4 full. Fix lids like w/ pf tek. Sterilize. Noc up the jar.
Wait till good chunks of growth have formed, shake and redistribute,
Fully colonized, break out and case with 50%peat moss,50%vermiculite,lime.

Sure, but how long has it taken them to become that colonized?

13 days and only about 1/2 way. Using grain, like wild bird seed, will colonize faster due to the multiple inoculation points after shaking. Plus IMO it has a better structure for the growing mycelium.

Not boasting, just trying to enlighten you. I too started w/ pf's but after my first grow coulda kicked my ass after finding out that bird seed colonized bigger amounts and was 4x faster.

Those are black thistle(nyger?) seeds stuck to the jar with rizomorphic(thready) mycelium growing on it.(Hawaiian)
