your fruiting chamber can be as simple as a shelf in your closet
or as complex as a portable green house hooked up to timers, cool mists, ultrasonics, and such...

the light sources can be anything from a simple bulb thats turned on for only 1 minute a day, or a super badass gro-light fluorescent type bulb on 24/7...to daylight on occasion.

btw, check "Mushroom Info" -> "Grow Mushrooms" -> "Fruiting Chambers", located across the top menu bar, next to "HOME". Check there for various setups, then come back and ask specific questions you dont have answered.

12 hours light, 12 hours darkness are optimal for pinning. Incandescents provide the least efficient form of light for the mushrooms to use, but they're still better than LEDS, christmas lights, etc. crazy assed ideas people come up with (no offense to those who swear by them, heh)

A cheap plant florescent plant light can bought for less than $20 at any mega-mart store and will be ideal. But in a pinch, just leave the lights on in the room and make sure nothing obstructs the light between the bulb and mycelium.

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.

Dude, Yellow cake = Contamination. Sorry, but submit your pics. I would like to see it. Especially when you say it wont colonize in the areas with "Yellow"..Bad sign of dead cake. Toss and don't look back. Could be anything, including botulism...You never know. Don't touch or smell, just toss, and practice better sterilization techniques for the future. I just did 35-40 jars and only lost 3 due to water logging. Probably from loose bands letting water in during PSI cooking. L8R--
