Element is unhooked. And it will only run about 100 degrees. Alls I used was the fan and it quit.

I've kept 'em fresh in a plain paper bag in the veg. bin of the fridge for about 3 or 4 days with no problem.

just flop them in front of a regular household fan, they will still dry out quite a bit that way. Finish with desiccant if necessary.

I use desiccant and it works so well I don't even want a dehydrator now... I made a rather crappy set up... just a layer of damprid (bought from the grocery store where I work on the aisle where the cleaning products are) inside a plastic container. I lay the shrooms on top of a piece of aluminum foil and put the lid on the plastic container.... They dry mostly within 24 hours. And I'm in New Orleans where the humidity is OUTRAGEOUS. The damprid was like $5, is reusable, and I still have half the box left.

Heat is not required to dehydrate anything... all you need is quick-moving fresh air passing over as much surface area as possible.
Here's something you can do - which, by the way, will work for beef-jerky as well - if you want to really prove out the point...
To to the big-box store and buy at least six paper furnace air filters, a box fan and some bungy cords. If you have a fan already, clean the damn thing first...nasty.
Put two air filters together, and then lay out your mushies all along the top of the second filter. Fill that up, put another filter down, repeat...until you have two filters left and put them on the top and using the bungy cords, secure them tot he fan.
Turn the fan on low, return 6-12 hours later, cracker dry.
Dehydrators are great, when you only have enough to fit...

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.

Sounds like one of those jokes on a Popsicle stick or the Laffy Taffy candies.
