THis is the second time this has happened....
A week or less after I harvest a beutiful first flush from my wbs..to straw grow....green mold gets them.....
And its always after the first flush, when the mycellium is bluing and weak...so what can i do to prevent this??
Is it because i needs to be sterile after harvest?
Thanks

sterility isnt as much of an issue once the sub. is fully colonized. i always use a flame sterelized scapel and cut the shroomies as close as i can to the bottom. any shrooom left over will rot and leave room for contams.

Straw doesn't really retain moisture all that well. That is why a lot of people do a 50/50 poo/straw substrate. This is due to poo's ability to retain moisture better.
A dunk will help to replace the water that was lost during the growth cycle. In turn, this keeps the mycelium healthy. When mycelium is healthy, it can more easily ward of competing contaminates.

Sounds like there might be green mold in your casing or spawn if it hits that fast, I have been battling the stuff myself and might could provide a few suggestions.
Just don't use LC's it could increase your chance of unseen contams. IF you use lc use the grain LC method agar did a write up on it.
Pasteurize your substrate, and pasteurize your casing!! This is crucial..
Also it doesn't hurt to keep everything clean, I wipe down my substrate trays with alcohol, my green would start out in between there alot..
If you dunk dunk with clean water.

Agreed and also if it isnt your casing material that is causing the contam up the fae trich loves stagnant air.

Yes do this for sure >> http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=30&Number=6817701&fpart=1&PHPSESSID=
That way you know for a fact you are starting with a clean culture and you can always turn this "Mycelium water)it into more lc when you start running low, just do this http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=2&Number=4141612&fpart=1&PHPSESSID=
and than shoot a hole syringe of of this mycelium waster into it and it will take off FAST .... so fast and so thick infarct that even with sharp shards of broken glass in there to rip it up it still may be too thick to suck into a standard syringe so go and get some large gage needles...A "Flavor injector" (In the kitchen gadgets section of the grocery store) or a "Ink refilling syringe" (At any office supply store) should fit the bill quite nicely >>

now the trick is finding out how to get a clone then use that grain lc without doing agar or lc.
