I need an idea.
    #7194522 - 07/18/07 08:37 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

alright as a lot of people have these things I decided to get a martha setup, well its been running fine but I need an idea.

the water that leaks from the bottom, due to the cool mist.. how can i catch this water? the closet is 21 inches deep, and I cant find a single rubbermaid that will fit it.

what other ideas are there for catching water, right now im using a towel, and it works, but is a pain in the ass.

I also want my closet to be somewhat mobile, ie. id like to put wheels on it somehow.

MY IDEA- i thought about cutting a piece of board, cutting it to desired size, probably bigger than the closet so I can mount the power strip, coolmist and everything to the board as well.

Anyone have ANY ideas.

Thank you!

seal off the bottom and on the lower rack put trays of perlite to catch any excess moisture using this method i only have to wipe the bottom every so often maybe 1 time a week or so?

You could also get a small kiddie pool and set the whole thing in that. You need air exchange anyway, so it doesn't matter if it isn't a good seal. You could line it with plastic and then as said, use small trays full of perlite to catch the drips. The perlite will even evaporate it back into the air.

I forgot to mention that i currently run my coolmist from inside my greenhouse.

Thats the only reason I havent put a perlite tray in.

How did you seal the bottom off? anything special?

wood has a tenancy to contam hmm if you do use wood make sure to seal it first using water sealant i dunno if that will work for long periods of time though since it will always be wet hmm.

Perhaps I could put somekind of anti-slip sponge material on the wood after I seal it.

Im just having a hard time thinking what I could use. Im not very creative. I'll check out Home Depot and see what kind of building materials they have, I would preferably like something I could put casters on aka wheels

Ha, thats actually the Tek I used.

However, again, I cant find a rubbermaid to fit the depth of this closet. I have 2 of the damn things sitting in my closet now since I went out and bought 2 different ones.

could you modify one of the rubbermaids you have to fit the size of the closet?

not really, Ive thought about that option, to do so, I'd have to cut the back off the rubbermaid in order to make the closet fit inside, and with no back, that defeats the purpose since the water would just leak out the back then.

Unless.... I maybe could heat it with a blow dryer and maybe bend it enough to make it fit. Its only off by about an inch. HMMM ideas ideas.

Look at your local big box -mart stores for under bed storage bins. They make em in a TON of sizes, you just gotta look around, I found one that fits under my green house perfectly.

Or you could just timer your cool mist so that it shuts off right before drips start. RR suggested this in a thread a while back, seems like a perfect solution. You just have to perfect the interval for the off cycle as this will determine how humid your chamber will get.

peace and good luck

Alternatively, you could just use two smaller rubbermaid containers instead of one big one. Might be easier to find.

Also, I just remembered somebody recommending checking out a petstore for a kitty litter box. they were saying that the biggest one available was just the right size.

ok it sounds kinda funny but i have made tubs out of cardboard and sealed them with packing tape and it is water tight, i have used this method to make mini greenhouses for my salvia and for drip/water catchers for under my cacti.

right now i have one that i made for my cacti under my greenhouse :-))

take a look at one of the mini greenhouses i made for my salvia

No wheels on that green house, Blut. I have 3 of them.

My coolmist is inside, running on a timer, and the bottom is sealed off by 45 gallon contractor trash bags (any big sheet of plastic works). Once a day I mop the drips outta the bottom, not perfect, but it works!
