casing question
    #7194490 - 07/18/07 08:29 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Hi all-

I'm a newbie growing for the first time and have a question. I have quite the monotub set up (two of them) and I'm fruiting a ton of cakes as well as two casing beds. For my casing beds I have one half-pint jar that I cut in half and surrounded in vermeculite, which is contained in its own tupperware in the terranium with all the others. I noticed today that while the casing beds are starting to grow tons of babies, there are some pins starting to form deep in the bed deep against the tupperware. Should I take the whole bed out of the tupperware and set it on a flat surface so the burried pins can mature and grow, or will they push themselves up to the top when they're bigger? Thanks!

P.S. I just harvested my twin Texans off another cake...one was 10.7g wet and the othe was 10.9g!!

Congrats on a successful 1st grow!

By chance, is the container your cased substrate is in clear?

That will cause side pinning, but some pins on the side are unavoidable as the substrate shrinks and pulls away from the sides of the container. Its really nothing to worry about, but if they don't manage to make it up to the surface by themselves you can always take the substrate out of the container.

In the futute IMO use foil to line your container. It blocks out light and as the casing shrinks it will be attached and draw inward w/ the casing. Cuts down side pinning greatly if not perfectly.
