hey i was just thinkin about ways to get bigger fruits out of the pf tek. and i came up with this recipe for a substrate....
2 parts verm 1 part brf 1 part potato water 1 teaspoon dextrose
would the added nutes from this have any significance on flush or fruit size? i'm going to try it anyway just wanna know your oppinions

no, added nutes will result in little to no difference in flush or fruit size. bulk/mass make up the majority of the flush/fruit size, followed by available water to the substrate.
the fact remains, you want bigger fruits, you use bigger/better substrates.
but understand im not knocking your effort, experimentation is always good, it teaches others and ourselves.

Instead of potato water, how about brown rice water?
I gonna be doing a similar experiment with using compost tea in place of tap water.
edit: yea what dysphoria said. it makes sense, and this probably would have been adopted years ago if it worked. However, bigger fruit size is not exactly what I'm after, but simply more overall fruit and faster colonization. Would nutrients help with colonization speed?

I don't see how substituting Brown Rice Water for Potato Water would really change the answer that Dysphoria gave you
edit - Heh, you edited as I was replying. Sorry.

possible, but this is right back to the basics...a cake of X weight will only produce Y amount.
nutrients arent the issue when it comes to why pftek produces such small quantities, its the size of the cakes. the mixture of brf/verm is already about optimal in terms of nutrients available. by using potato water, dextrose water, poo water, or any type of water will add nutrients, and this will be beneficial to the mycelium, making it more robust, but it will not give you any noticeable increases in sizes of fruits, number of flushes, or even potency.
if it did, someone would've already jumped out and said something, because the fact is, ppl use a myriad of different types of water, from poo to coffee, all the time, but no one can say for certain that it does much.

I was under the impression that the only things to REALLY affect colonization times were strain, temperature, and lighting. Definitely feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

to answer that, yes, it could increase colonization time edit: increase the speed of colonization is what i meant to say, but it could do that as well. =)
mycelium lives by producing enzymes capable of digesting cellular structures...and by giving mycelium something beyond what it normally gets, forces the mycelium to evolve into producing a wide array of enzymes. by adding these various things at various times in the life cycle of your mycelium is a good way to ensure you have healthy specimens capable of overcoming disease, slow generation, etc.

Maybe you should also add coffee grounds. I've never seen somebody do it with brf, but they are a good supplement to many other substrates.

I added dextrose to my BRF cakes once, and got no growth of any kind for about 1.5 months before i just chucked em...

I do the pf tek but instead of brf I use WBS flour and the colonization is significantly faster. I did some jars of regular brf and 5 days later did some jars of wbsf and the wbsf ones beat the brf in colonization.
You just grind it up like brown rice. Plus it's a lot cheaper than brown rice or brown rice flour.
