wetness of jars? how much does it matter
    #7191145 - 07/18/07 01:35 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

hey i inoculated like 4-5 days ago or so, all my jars are showing myc with no contams! so im pretty happy, temps have been good out here. My question is since im using 1 pint jars rather than half pints brown rice flour, should i have to ever wet my substrate down again or will it just colonize completely before ill have to? i guess a question that i dont see addressed is the humiidty or dampness needed for mycelium. Some are like 10 percent others like 5-8.

If the water content of the jar was correct upon creation/sterilization; You will be fine. Size of the jar will not matter.

If your water content is off after inoculation, it is difficult to correct after the fact.

When you pressure cook, you eliminate all of the contaminates and etc. within your jar. Introducing water that was not part of the PC'ing process would defeat the purpose. You should always get things right the first time. Assuming you did everything correctly, you should be fine.

yeah i did everything right the first time i was just making sure, Every single jar is colonizing.....not bad for boiling method and first time huh? ones like 85 percent colonized where as another is like 10 percent so i guess that happens i inoculated them hours apart due to cooling and i could only cook 4 jars at a time so  wish me luck.

Jeez. 4-5 days after inoculation and you're at 85%? I inoculated 4 days ago and I am at 0% on all jars, with no contams.

Yep, sounds like everything is going along well. I would definitely recommend a pressure cooker as future investment. Your chances of encountering contamination will be many times lower. And 85% after 4-5 days is very good.

Moisture content can make of break your grow easily and is one of those things that may be hard to get right at 1st but once you do it a few times you will get better at it so try and start getting it right asap and soon you will have more mushies than you can eat
