Re: The Amazing SUN

I've had PF's fruiting near a window before, and my results tend to support yours, although I did not get such large specimens. They did semm to grow larger than my regular dark-grown shrooms.

You can try using a grow bulb. Any bulb close to the sun (400-800 lux and blue-green spectrum) should work as well fine. The only problem with the sun is adding too much heat. Any shroom will fruit from even a pinhole source of light.

Now you need another experiment that measures the psilocybin potency of the shrooms grown in sunlight compared to those grown in regular room light.... eat them and tell us the difference!

Dirtydog has the real answer. I believe that sunlight will be more beneficial than MOST artifical growing environments unless you use very specific light spectra to fruit your mushrooms. Since sunlight has more than just light (infrared, ultraviolet etc.) the mushrooms will react differently to sunlight than with incandescent or flourescent light. However if you can obtain a nice blue-green (more blue than green) grow light, you would most likely be able to outperform the sun.

Just remember mushrooms started in NATURE, not in a grow room, so they'd naturally prefer natural sunlight to unnatural incandescent/floursecent light, unless you can control what spectra of light will be hitting your mycelium the sun will be a nice, stable pinning initiator.
