I dont know how to use Myc Bags

I have some bags that I have not ever used. I have some questions about them.
Do I fill them with the subtrate then seal them and then PC them?
Will the bags not explode if they are already sealed? I am scared that
I am going to blow my kitchen into bits. And maybe myself as well.
Is it also true that the filter patches are self healing? I dont
think so, but someone told me that they are.

no u seal them and then fill them with substrate with your mind but because because you could explode your brain. filter patches are not self healing, self healing injection ports are.

wow, i think that last post was used to confuse.
Anyway, It depends on what type of bag you have. If you have the presealable spawn bags then you can put your substrate in, then seal, and finally PC.
If you don't have the presealable spawn bags, then you would need to PC, let it cool down, then seal the bag quickly.
The filter patches are not self healing. Do not ever puncture the filter patch. Try to keep the filter patch as clean as possible. If you purchased the self healing filter (presealable) spawn bags, there would be an injection area which would be self healing.

No no no Hobo. Thats funny, but you missed the point. I am worried that if the bag is sealed then PC'd the trapped gas inside of the bag would expand and blow the bag. I have put a bag in the microwave and it exploded.

Thanks. I have no idea if my bags are presealable or not, so I just wont even mess with them. I am trying to put together the parts for a flow hood, and that would make sealing them after the PC a little easier with avoiding contams.

I never seal before PC'ing bags. You can slip a tyvek sleeve down in the bag and fold it up so the tyvek acts as a temporary filter. When you inoculate in a glovebox or under the flowhood, remove the tyvek, inoculate and seal. It works like a charm. There's a video tek for it on my DVD. RR

I have had great success with myco. bags and have never even owned an impulse sealer. Wish I could get my pics downloaded. I fill my bags with properly prepared wbs , Take a wad of polly fill and place it in the inside neck of the bag. Taking lock ties i secure a lock towards the bottom of the polly fill plug then one on top and then one in the middle to secure a great breather and sealer. My bags have filter patches. So close to the bottoms of the filter patch i place some micro pore tape stick w/ an LC micro tape that and incubate. Terrible description I'm afraid. But this is full proof( I'm serious, 12 out 12 every time)

As for what the great RR is saying, this setup of mine will not work w/ grain transfers in the current layout that I laid out. ( i guess RR was talking about GT's, i don't know)

I just saw the video. Well I watched it twice. That really makes sense to use the tyvek sleeve. I only bought two sleeves from you though. I should have purchased more. Great work!
