Lighting setup w/ Martha and/or mini-shelved fruiting chamber

I was curious what kind of lighting setup I would use with a standard , enclosed , shelved fruiting chamber (or for that matter a Martha ). Specifically would each single shelf have its own light source or would one single light source at the top of the unit suffice?
I've seen them before with a single light at the top, but it would seem to me that this would not be enough light. Some input anyone?
(this would be a cased cubensis fruit BTW)

Im still working on figuring out what Im going to do for lighting, Ive seen many things though through my research here.
the idea I like is putting it behind the FC, because you dont really want the light IN the FC at all since the high humidity will probably just end up fucking it up.
make sure you get a light color in the right spectrum, I think mushrooms grow best around 6500K

Nope, whatever light you have in the room the greenhouse is in will do you just fine

Im sure it's sufficient.
But he's probably in the same mind frame as me, wanting a light that I can put on a timer and have it more constant than just a room light and also providing more of the right "color" light.

I just have a clip on light that I attach to the top of my greenhouse and it seems to work nicely. The walls are also white so it reflects some of the light for those bottom shelves. But any room light will do really, mushrooms only use it as a pinning/direction trigger anyway.

That's right KingPins. Just useing the available light in the room , while I'm sure it would suffice (hmmm, maybe), I want something I can control. I have thought about running floresent tubes vertically along the length of the chamber. One problem I could see with this is the mushies growing toward the light...

@Lost Nebula - What kind of light do you use and what is the wattage? thanks

Yeah, I really like that idea too. Especially since I already have 2 of those clamp lights.

You just got to remember one thing you are growing mushrooms and not weed. Weed is a plant that requires photosynthesis which they get from sunlight which makes it grow. All the lighting for mushrooms does is start the pinning trigger for it and tells the mushrooms which direction to grow\sprout in as the previous person already said. Lighting is not really that important to growing mushrooms compared to FAE and humidity as compared to nutrients and sunlight to weed. Just regular sun light or a light bulb above them will do just fine.

But MFKDGAF one (read 2) question(s). Wouldn't the lower shelves be blocked from the light by the upper shelves? Would there be any noticable difference in growth? Just curious.

MKFDGAF: Don't answer that. Rereading your post I get now what you say. Light is mearly the trigger. Righto. Does the source matter at all then? in other words- incandesents will do as well as floresents...

You want a "natural daylight" florescent with a color temp of 6500 Kelvin. Mushrooms respond best to light of that frequency. You can pick up those bulbs up just about anywhere, and they fit in a standard socket, so all you need is the bulb, the lamp, and a timer you can set to give a 12/12 lighting cycle.

I use a clip on lamp that holds regular bulbs. I usually use a 60 watt bulb for my whole greenhouse with no problems.

Hmmm, I wonder why he didn't test the 6500 K florescent?

Not sure but it seems like his conclusion from testing different light sources shows that it really doesn't make a difference what you use. I'll try to find someone who did experiments with other lighting and see what results they got.

I think that is because he was using lights that flowering plants respond to and not mushrooms.
I'm not saying any light won't work, just that old hands have said MANY times that 12/12 at 6500 K makes a difference for the better.

Well it was just for experimentation I guess. I too follow 12/12 and use CF bulbs. Seems to work great for me.
