Pressure Cooker dangers

If a pressure cooker leaks water/steam from a seal thats getting old, it would be LESS likely to explode, not more likely, correct?
The main downside of such a PC would be the seal NOT maintaining the required 15PSI...not an explosion.
Just trying to ease the mind of a paranoid FOAF.

In my experience yes it would just take the pressure cooker longer to get to 15 psi if it made it at all and it would also be noisy while it tries to maintain pressure due to the hair and moisture being forced out of the worn seal. The only time there should ever be an explosin would be if the pc was left on too long and the two or three safety features on most pc's failed. That's pretty far fetched though.

If the seal were to blow totally out, it wouldn't explode, but would rapidly depressurize, which would spray a LOT of steam at very high speed into the room. That stuff can cut you in half. Make sure the seal can't mechanically blow all the way out. RR

I had a problem with my AA 921 saturday night, it's metal to metal so no gasket, but I didn't clean it and torque it down right so it leaked enough I only tk it to 12-13 lbs.
But no, it's not real dangerous. Why not just buy a new seal?
If you can't find one I've got a Mom-and-Pop kinda hardware store that has all that kind of stuff.

For me the world is weird because it is stupendous, awesome, mysterious, unfathomable;my interest has been to convince you that you must assume responsibility for being here, in this marvelous world,in this marvelous desert,in this marvelous time. I wanted to convince you that you must learn to make every act count, since you are going to be here for only a short while;in fact, too short for witnessing all the marvels of it.

I have once or twice had steam leak out of the side of the PC and not just the vent ,I let it depressurize and opened it up to apply some petroleum jelly since that only happened when I have forgotten to do that for a while,it is necessary to keep the seal, one I did that it was problem solved

You could try a light coating of cooking oil or vaseline on both sides of the gasket.

Mary thought she would use a old gasket on her pressure cooker. Well Mary looks like you wont have to be worried about the prom this year.

Sheesh. That's not a real burn. It's make-up on an actress in a science fiction movie. It's not even a steam burn.
