I have Borderline Personality Disorder
    #7181504 - 07/15/07 11:11 PM (16 years, 8 months ago)

http://www.palace.net/~llama/psych/bpd.html#kern

It sucks, I never knew that my thinking and emotions were off.

It's fucking my entire life up, I can't keep a job. The wife is about to leave me. On top of it I have to deal with really bad anxiety and depression.

I haven't smoked weed in 3 days, as pathetic as it is, I'm very proud of myself, and this is the first time I've had the self-control to do so. I feel so much better. But still I'm not ok.

Have you been professionally diagnosed or is this your opinion?

I am self-diagnosed, my step mother enlightened me to it. I meet all 9 of the criteria.

If it makes you feel better at all, they say that really 95% of the population can technically fit into Borderline Personality Disorder status because of how broad of symptoms there are for it.

Don't get too down about it. The first step is recognizing you have a problem, and I"m not talking about BPD, I'm just talking about a problem in general. The next step is fixing it. Don't get too caught up on this BPD stuff. It will only slow you down.

You can't properly self-diagnose yourself. Psychologists study so many archetypes and divisions of the psyche and even then it is sometimes hit-and-miss (I had a theory that psychiatrists simply label anything they do not understand as schizo). The average person who does not know the full spectrum of personality disorders, could get stuck on this loop after reading only about 1 or 2, when in reality there could be a myriad of other possibilities. If they get too far in this loop they could be labelled a hypochondriac.

Secondly, if you are the one who has a mental illness, depending on how severe it is, it technically means you are mentally incapable of making decisions or observing your own nature from a rational perspective. Maybe you are a schizoid. Maybe you have PTSD. Maybe you are under a lot of stress. Maybe this. Maybe that.

"Everyone has all these traits to a certain extent. Especially teenagers. These traits must be long-standing (lasting years) and persistent. And they must be intense."

Like, I do every one of the 9 criteria on a daily basis.

But I do believe that my depression is what causes most of my problems, especially with my wife. I have been sitting on the computer smoking weed for the past month allowing her to work 2 jobs and carry the whole load. Just.. moping and beating myself up. I never make an effort to show her how much I care for her. I don't clean the house. I always refuse to go out with friends and family.

My anxiety causes a lot of problems too, I work myself up to going to get an application from some place, I drive past it 10 times smoke a cigarettes really fast right before I go in. Then I usually can never work myself up to going back to give it to them.

Could my father passing away cause PTSD?

When I was younger I spent three months in a residential treatment facility and was professionally diagnosed with ADD, OCD, Anxiety and Depression.

Big deal I have bi-polar disorder. It is mild, but I have my ups and downs since I was born. I never was diagnosed having this, but I have had friends with bi polar. and i do have ups and downs a lot..ever since I have been alive.
The trippy thing is i was thinking about this an hour before I posted this.

Is it possible then, that you are depressed and being OCD about having this disorder?

At least you're not bipolar lmaoooooo, who are usually nothing but emotional self-righteous people. I would never be-friend a bi-polar because of the drama they carry.

Depression and anxiety suck - have had that on and off for decades. Most of my problems are linked to my gut. When I eat too many carbs, it screws up my metabolism and I suffer.

Not saying that carb intolerance is the cause for all people, but for many, simple diet changes can make a big difference. If the carbs cant be absorbed and they ferment in the gut, it raises lactic acid in the blood, which makes the alarm sensors go off. It also lowers absorption of tryptophan, which is needed to make serotonin. Low serotonin = feel bad. And too much sugar/starch makes my blood sugar go up and down like a roller coaster - when it gets low, I get jittery and feel like I'm gonna die. Sugar metabolism is also linked to serotonin through the inositol pathways.

Of course, your symptoms could be caused by something else - I'm not gonna diagnose from behind my monitor. But if you cant afford to see a doctor, one possible way to try to improve your health is to change your diet.

Weed mellows some people out, but can increase anxiety/paranoia in others.

All the problems you listed (job, friends and general lazyness) are not symptoms of your depression. It's the other way around.

The whole borderline personality disorder just seems like a convenient excuse. Problem or not, you still have to do shit for youself. Sitting around feeling sorry for yourself doesn't pay bills does it?

Happyness is a luxury and just like any other luxury, working hard usually comes first.
