Alcohol lamp or oil lamp?

I'm having trouble finding an alcohol lamp that isn't really expensive with shipping and handling. I have found an oil lamp to buuy at walmart. Will this work just as well?

no it won't.....you will have nasty oily soot on your needle.

if you can't find an Alcohol lamp.....use a butane torch or lighter(torch kind).

Do the torch lighters leave residue on the needle? I have used one but didnt look for any residue....

Very little.....and you can wipe the needle with a cotton ball with 99% Alcohol on it....if it makes you feel better.

on there names, that means they have mushrooms for sale.

Or you can do what I did--make your own alcohol lamp...

...go to the grocery store, and buy a small jar of baby food--preferably something you might want to eat (I went for the applesauce, and steered clear of the creamed lamb

). After you empty and rinse out the jar, hammer a small nail through the lid, from the top side. Finally, cut a single "thread" (or whatever they're called) from the end of a mop--you need a piece just long enough to poke a quarter inch out of the lid, and barely touching the bottom of the jar when the lid is on. Finally, fill the jar, about half-way with denatured alcohol (in the paint department of a hardware store), screw the cap on and light!

or if you need it quick do what i do. take a shot glass fill it up with a little alchol and light.

works good.
