A sad day in Schlagersville...
    #7175655 - 07/14/07 04:51 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

(walks in with head down)
"Well, I buried my babies today...
It wasn't easy, but I did.
Don't know if I did it right or not.
I broke up the soil, put a lil verm in it, mixed it around,
threw em in there, kinda ruffled some dirt around the sides and then put some leaves back over em. I Left the pinheads on it.
Whats right? whats wrong?
Oh yeah, I sprayed em real good with water too.
well enough words lets get to the pics!

the close up. See how green mold myc is also white...and you can't "Just cut it out" b/c it will just get worse!

What are my "Odds of survival?

Keep it slightly damp and put straw or a piece of cardboard over it for shade. I'd mix a few shovelfulls of horse or cow manure in with it.

So they're at least the right depth tho?
I didn't know if I should COMPLETLY cover it, or have just the pin heads on the surface.

... a word to the wise... Don't go into the woods without some
bug spray on! DAMN IT! I bet I got 10 skeeter bites just in the 2 minutes it took me to bury that shit!

Also for clarity, I'm not hoping for the pinheads that are on it to take off, right? I'm hoping that eventually the myc can build up a defense against "Outside Conditions" then eventually will fruit again? Right?
And RR Thanks man. I love your post, I always get alot out of it but;
you don't answer my "Specific" questions...you never "State the obvious" lol ya gotta remember who your talking to sometimes though!lol
For instance I asked  "what is the "Survival Rate" of these projects?
(And I know its gonna vary greatly) I guess I'm asking is it just a sheer genetics thing?  Oh, and whats the best way to get a shovel full of Hpoo. Nighttime pasteur raid, or just go to the barn owner and ask? :calledajoke:

I just went through the same thing! Do like RR says and you should end up with a few fruit(moisture and shade), so it's not a complete loss. The pins that are on it now will probably die off. Watch out for slugs! They love mushrooms and have quite an appetite! Everyone of us have been through the same thing. Good luck.

I'd keep an eye on the pins. Unless they were damaged during transport and/or planting, they should continue to grow to maturity.

As mentioned, watch out for critters!

Yes you can eat a cube grown on green mold infected substrate. You do it every time you eat a portobello.

They are perfectly fine to consume, as has been above. Eating mold is not harmful to healthy humans. The contamination which is a point of concern when considering eatin, is bacteria- but even that would have to be growing directly on the mushrooms themselves, and it looks blatantly like any other rotting produce- black, mushy, slimy, smells like garbage (kinda sweet/foul).

I don't notice that mold has grown on the mushrooms themselves, and even if that were the case, they would still be safe to eat. If you are paranoid, you can boil the mushrooms into a tea, killing any mold present, though it is unecessary. I would dry them or eat fresh. If you eat them fresh, be prepared for some nausea, most people become nauseas from fresh psilocybin mushrooms- however, it is nothing to worry about.

Have fun.

Looks fine to me. Be somewhere safe when you eat those.

"Wet Spot" is not a type of mold, it is a type of bacteria known as Bacillus.
