I payed my way through most of college by pizza driving. $15/hr, I would go a semester, then take a semester off and save a bunch of money and then go again.

I can't do semester off. I will be in college for years, prolly for PhD. I even tried to get 18 credits for next semester but couldnt cause of conflict schedule. I was basically planning on studying non stop, I don't really chill with friends anymore. Hell, if there was a drug that would prevent me from sleeping I would take it...
Maybe I could just work non stop and still take a bunch of credits every semester.

Hahaha, you think it's that easy?
dude, take out some loans then whatever job opportunities come about take them!
I know ppl at my college that are in debt, well for one they're paying out-of-state tuition, and two, they're doing it all on loans.
I'm sure if you went in-state then it wouldn't be so bad and hell you could even apply for some type of scholarship out there!? There's so fucking many!!! I got one for volunteering and I didn't even know about it. I have bright futures that pays 75% and then ahtletic scholarships that pay for my books.
Just work hard and things will fall into place. otherwise don't work hard and you'll see how easily they fall out of place

I'm thinking military. I've always wanted to join up but after getting my scholarships I went straight to college. Or I might work at UPS and get them to pay for some of my classes.

I was thinking about the military vs college thing when I was in hs and...
I'm so fucking happy I went to college.
A friend of mine who is pretty much all business, went to the marines as reserve, got her college paid for her. blablablbaabla she has a nice job now. This girl pretty much got her shit over with and didn't... how could I put this "Stop to smell the roses". She has money but she blew away a chance to have a college experience.
Seriously, I would've shot myself if I went to the military over college.
Then again, that's me. but you can't get these years back once you use them. Either way it'll be hard work and rewarding but college is definately, without a doubt, a once in a lifetime experience.

I'd go the route of student loans.
What do you want a Ph.D. in? Most biological sciences are completely paid for and tuition free.

I don't have a college experience. I don't even care about that. I just want a degree. My plan was basically to work study non stop and get all A's. I had a 3.89 GPA last semester so everything seems to be working out fine.

Biochemistry or chemistry. And yes I had a full ride but for some reason I didn't get shit for next semester.

If you're gonna go all the way to PhD, then get loans, go into debt, and pay it off when you get that power job you'll get with the PhD.

are you sure it's not sent at the end of the semester? i know several scholarships require you to front the money and then they refund you.

Nah, I had all mine sent at the start every year.

Yea... I might do that but where can I get loans? I got federal subsidized loans last year and they came on the same sheet that had the scholarships. For some reason I didn't get any this time.
What about private loans?

Go to the financial aid office at your school. They have all the forms you need to get federal loans and shit.

Well I dont want to pry into your personal finances... But I find that you or your family have to make alot of money to be denied even unsubsidized loans. In fact... I have never seen anybody denied unsubsidized loans from the FASFA...
Do you have an inordinate amount of credits? (I do, and will likely get cut off of financial aid before I graduate)
If I were in your shoes, I would go to the financial aid office, and ask them why you didnt at least get subsidized or unsubsidized loans. Ask them what specifically disqualifies you. Tell them your situation they may find an error, or at least point you in some direction as to where to find funding.

from my understanding, getting a Masters in chemistry or biochem will get you a more stable job. first they don't have to pay you as much which means they keep you and PhDs are expendable as the Masters students are the ones that do most of their work. PhD is just the head.
I mean this is coming from a Masters chem student who either is bitter about not being a PhD or maybe there's something to it.

Usually you do a PhD if you want to publish or do publishable research.
Usually you get a masters if you are going to do anything but publishable research.
PhD isnt necessarily "the head", nor will you necessarily make more or be more prestigious.
I think masters have a more stable job outlook because there are trained to work in industry where all the jobs are. With the PhD its publish or perish.

It depends on what you want.
A master's degree in biochem will usually qualify you for the exact same positions a B.S. will, except make you a more attractive candidate (e.g. a technician who does all the work for a Ph.D.).
A Ph.D. will give you much more flexibility, but throw you into a job market which is MUCH, much more competitive.
At this point in time, a major difference is financing the degree. As I said before, you will get paid to achieve your Ph.D. (A salary PLUS free tuition), while you will pay full tuition to obtain your masters.
