Writing and Intelligence
    #7174607 -

Is looking at the content of someone's thoughts on myspace a good way to gauge intelligence.

Or an internet board for that matter?

If so it seems that the extent of some people's thinking almost entirely falls into strings of Johnny Depp is hot I like pizza oh that shirt is cute and never leaves it?

How can this be? What do you guys think. I don't think I have ever run into one intelligence myspace from a cute single girl. Well, I ran into one I don't think I've ever run into two.

Maybe it is the place I live in.

Yes it is. What comes out of peoples mouths or the written word is what is going on inside their heads.

Intelligence (smarts and wisdom) is a rare commodity. If you find it a few times in your life consider yourself very fortunate. And very beautiful people very, very, very, rarely develop it.

I do not think that what you write is an indication of intelligence...only an indication of self importance. Intelligence can be expressed in many way besides writing. There are no superficial people, it is all a matter of the social training that you had that determines your primary modes of expression. I am trying to learn to be nonjudgmental about people. I have discovered that by avoiding judgment that I find common ground with nearly everyone that I choose to communicate with.

right absolutely.

communication is very perplexing. almost everything we say seems worthless.

to me the emotions are the paydirt. I had to do this Spanish presentation with this girl I liked, and I rehearsed it heavily. What we were saying was rather pointless and menial but the way I delivered it to her made her burst out laughing and it was like I was sending energy to her disguised within humdrum Spanish rehearsal, she didn't hold onto it for but a mere slipping moment and I couldn't get her back into it, but to me that's what matters.

and if you don't have that fuel it's like you shouldn't speak, but now i need to follow my own advice.

It seems to me, the ability to write, is the ability to form and structure one's thoughts.

The ability to write well is art, and has about as much to do with intelligence as playing a musical instrument.

A lot of people hide their intelligence because it is still frowned upon in the culture of young people in America. So don't take everything on face value. Everyone has that glint behind her or his eyes; everyone has been a part of this world and seen a part of its vast unfoldment, thus everyone is capable of conveying insight and wisdom whether one knows it or not.

to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

The more I try to understand what intelligence is, the less the word makes any sense. Is it simply "how fast, and/or how much someone can catch on to things?" Potential brainpower?

Reading and writing sure make you look smarter, but really it is only organization of the mind, so doesnt intelligence come before that? Id say that well-read individuals are educated, which is a utilization of intelligence.

I have seldom met someone whose ability to write was not founded upon a basic level of intelligence. Basing an opinion of someone on their profile or other self-proclamation is basing it on only the superficial layer they would like to convey. Personally, I share who I truly am only in person, and to a select few. I disagree that beautiful people are seldom highly intelligent; more so that highly intelligent people choose the easier walk of life. If a smart person is attractive, do you think that it would be easier to pretend not to be? If getting by on one's looks makes it easier to fit in in today's fashion and status driven society then I say smart people project the easier image to follow. Anyway, to make it short(er) - yes, usually you can base a certain level of intelligence by what someone writes - but is someone who is a mathematical genius less smart because they could care less about grammar?

maybe i would call intelligence ability to flourish greatly

not bookish intelligence or anything of the sort

but perhaps it is evident that when comparing writing there could be contrasts so vast that it would appear as if two people were speaking different languages

i would wonder that if someone has nothing to write about but a song they heard, what is going on in their heads versus someone that can freestyle write several paragraphs off the top of his brow about some sort of theory he has concocted over time and stewed in his brain.

the person writing about the song has a deep emotion it triggers and they want to connect in that way. its all relative

its all good

but perhaps i would say intelligence is utilizing, honing, and fine tuning ones potential towards something which they can excel at, excelling being a state of rising far above normal standards, pushing the envelope and learning how to become bewildered and thoroughly and fully satisfied with what is they are doing

be it conversation, writing, math, or whatever...... perhaps this is what i mean. a spirit, and a divine glint in the eyes as bug says. not someone very asleep and dreary with the monotonies of the world, peddling plastic artifacts and blasphemies as their only current of livelihood, only alive in the sense of sleep-walking is awake.

its a trap because we are transcending words and their limitations but there is still something real when i ask and feel that you can gather intelligence by someone's profile, their list of movies, their list of tv shows, and the few thoughts they would share

but i agree, it is just a front, what they WANT to share.....

if we all have the same potential to flourish.... and i think MOST everyone does, then what separates Rembrandt from Paris Hilton? I would like to think everyone is going to give something of true Quality to this world.

also i don't know anything about Rembrandt and am just throwing names, if we base intelligence upon book-smarts and the ability to list facts we seem to be missing Quality.

this is Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance peaking through from me, has anyone read it?

Intelligence is more than just the static knowledge of facts. I would say true intelligence has elements of wisdom and experience and discernment and self-knowledge.

In some cases, a blog such as MySpace may be a very accurate representation of the person's depth, and in other cases, it may be an awful representation, as it could just be a means for the person to project and sell a certain image of themselves. There's really no way to know without sharing actual time and space with the person.

But judging a person as intelligent or unintelligent, and seeing one as good and the other as bad is, ironically, indicative of intelligence that is not yet matured, IMO.

By looking at anothers appreciations, you can see what they like, and how deep they like it. I think its obvious that some people dig deeper than others. By going deeper and deeper, it seems that this feeling that is being manifested, is more and more precisely channelled, while another aspect of the art, perhaps the form, becomes more and more abstract. I think intelligence partially determines how deep you can go  without losing your senses and not being able to go any deeper. For this reason, I think intelligence may be just as meaningless as anything else in accordance to a meaninful path in life in the long run. Thats just my take though:cool:

If anyone followed what I was saying in my last post, does anybody else think that seeking to perfectly channel the mystic is a temptation that can deter you from a true spiritual path?

Sort of like in The Fountain where the knight finally reaches the tree of life?

to guage intelligence, you need to have a reason.
you don't make a rating for every passerby.
each reason to test needs a different kind of test.

eg. I am very impressed with my daughter's dog. not for tricks (it has none) but for its apparent sense of empathy.

something on a website could be written by anybody.
so whose intelligence do you need to measure and why?

so you are looking for a mate of sorts or a companion.

I reccommend finding someone with complementary aptitude (not the same aptitude) and complementary cares, and complementary craziness and tolerance for what you are and you need the same.

intelligence is a bit of a wild card - a bright internet presence could just lead to a narcisistic imposter

not sure how to find these things. I think the internet in terms of social networking sites is beyond useless for me, in terms of sites like this useful but people are wildly displaced throughout geography.

This leaves me thinking, no effort, just don't do anything. Just don't care, the Tao will throw things at you.

But you know at least right now I'm bored.
