Mother Earth

I'm curious as to what the beliefs here are concerning this planet we inhabit.
Do you believe the Earth is a conscious entity?

Personally, I think the it is feminine in nature, holding male forces in check to balance herself out.
Before I heard all the "Gaia" theories and such, I had a mushroom trip which brought me very close to the "spirit" of Earth.
I found that to this planet, we are like the microscopic organisms that inhabit our own bodies.
Some people think, "Well if the Earth was a conscious entity, it would of directly communicated with us by now."
Well I disagree, in a way. How would we communicate with bacterias and viruses in our own bodies? Well, we could give them signs such as taking medicine, soap, showers, etc. This is like natural disasters to us...
All I'm saying is that you cannot dismiss the possibility of the Earth being a conscious entity just because it doesn't communicate with us in English or yell at us ,"HEY, IM ALIVE!" For all we know, the wind is her yelling, the volcanoes are her pimples she likes to pop once in awhile, the rain is her tears of joy and of sorrow, etc...

If the Earth is conscious, it's about time we started to build a symbiotic relationship with her, instead of feeding off her like a parasite. I mean, being a parasite is fine, as long as you give something in return.

Do you believe the Earth is a conscious entity?
No, it only seems this way when your perception is distorted by mind altering substances, a chemical imbalance or you are suffering from brain trauma.

How would we communicate with bacterias and viruses in our own bodies?
These are not conscious either.

I agree. Gaia is a conscious entity.
And we do need to be more helpful parasites

Oh

How would we communicate with bacterias and viruses in our own bodies?
These are not conscious either.

And this is fact or opinion?

The idea that Gaia is a conscious entity might never be anything but speculation, and personally I don't buy into it. However, conscious or not, I do agree that it is in our best interest to seek a more symbiotic relationship with earth.

For me, Gaia, or earth mama, or whatever the term, is an effective metaphor for a god concept. To understand her laws is to understand "god's" laws.

I believe it is interactive. The wind speaks for your thought, etc. The molecules that tell you to breathe, interact with the molecules that float down wind. This part of my theory on 4th dimension.. Sound waves have area, as other things visible in 3 d are, but this is not how molecules communicate. Making the theory of a 4th dimension needed. How far into the earth and abroad this dimension exists, and this dimenions "inhabitants" is still unknown to me. But I'm sure Mother earth's brain or power structure stems from the 4th dimension, outward into 3 d where we only sense this. No proof. Because we have no proof or understanding of the 4th.

I think Mother Earth is indeed a conscious entity, of course.
I agree with Adamist whole-heartedly. I like your thoughts NugsRNice.
Our changes are intimately linked with Earth, and vice versa.
She evolves, we evolve.

This is not an entirely bogus idea. This is the way most ancient peoples began their search for God. What we call "Pagans" were people that held this belief and some of their traditions were assimilated into the Christian civilizations that encounterd them. The reason I believe (this is total opinion and not supported by any know fact) is that how we interact with our enviornment is essential in the way it reflects our preception of ourselves. This notion does run its course when we try to explain all natural phenomenom in a way that is subjective to our behavior. Our existence becomes negotiable, which is completely rediculous, even though we see this today in some of the "Earth" movements that postulate the possibility that humans could exist and not make any impact on the environment. This is not to say I don't believe that this notion can't be a "goal" for the good of humans in general, though.

I am of the camp here that believes in mother earth as a conscious entity. Perhaps her entheogens are a way for her to speak to us. I too had a trip this past weekend where I felt very connected to the eternal.
Those of us that have not yet heard her, may just need to listen longer or more closely.
