Most venders supply vermiculite, as The Crow said it's most always under substrates. Mycosupply.com is good but look around for the best price and such.

Meijer just started carrying vermiculite, atleast in my area.
It's Hoffman's vermiculite, if that does anything for you. And its 3.99 for an 8qt bag.
I'd seriously look around a bit more before you pay internet prices for raw materials.

I get all my vermiculite from a guy in China Town. It comes straight from Kujon'Yili jungle in the mountains of Kambodia. It is produced by the finest polynesian slaves under the command of the RPAF, a leftist guerilla group fighting for independence from the rest of the country. Premium quality.

I got a huge sack like 10 pillow cases worth for 20 bucks. Like you know the small bag they sell at places. Like a bit smaller then a pillow. 2 bags of that would cost me the same price as the huge one. I went to a hydroponic shop. I bet any hydro shop will carry it. I got a huge brown sack of it. Why cuz they had it. I doubt i would ever need one tenth of that. But i couldn't justify paying so much for the small bag when i could get a huge one for just a bit more.
If you still can't find a good source at a good price let me know.

I was talking to one of the smarter people at an Armstrong garden center about vermiculite... according to her it's hard to find because of some bullshit environmental regulations.
Apparently since the stuff floats on water, it's an environmental hazard since it would be easy for it to rinse out into the ocean (storm drains, runoff, etc.), where it would proceed to float about and have no detrimental effect... something we clearly must prevent.
Considering all the goddamn flotsam we DO allow to get out there, it's utter bullshit... but if you don't weed out the retards before they form lobby groups or get elected to office, you're left with little recourse afterwards.

thats BS why don't they care about the amount of fertilizers people dump on their lawn? How about the shit tones of salt the highway department dumps when it isn't even needed during the winters? What about the fact only 20% of jersey wetlands are left and that all the sewage and garbage goes straight out to sea. While the natural filtering system is being destroyed by city dumps, airports, condo's and highways. The natural habitat was an important part of the bigger picture. But know it is suffocating in it's own filth because water ways are destroyed, highways dissect the egg laying grounds of diamond back terrapins.
8 years ago there was a hype in the herp world. See breeders use vermiculite to incubate eggs. Sellers would say that the man is taking vermiculite off the market do to the ill effects of the airborn dust. Sounds understandable. But all the sellers sold the stuff for a little more and faster then usual. To make the loot. It's still on the market today.

It's not entirely bullshit - vermiculite usually contains asbestos, and even when it doesn't, the silica will slice mucous membranes to shreds. I really don't think Mr. and Mrs. Suburbia can handle vermiculite, hence the big-brotherly attempt to protect them from themselves.
Just wish they would do away with moth-balls. Paradichlorobenzene is nasty shit. Some of the oldies in my neighborhood dump it around their mailbox or fill their gardens with it, believing it drives away snakes. Sure, but so would a puddle of flaming gasoline!
