The downside of torrent is it can run considerably slow compared to p2p programs where the download is direct and alot faster. Port forwarding is supposed to help alot, but my router isn't in this room and hell I'm too lazy to bother going back and forth.

Would my downloads go faster if I remove some items from the dowloading list?

Use utorrent, it supports universal plug and play, I.E. your router will see that application is running and open all the ports it's self.
