Including Shroomerites who hate the government, universities who are independent of government funding, and Australia too? That sounds like paranoia to me.
The Australian Skeptics Challenge: http://www.skeptics.com.au/prizes/challenge.htm
By the way, the Australian Skeptics offer a $20,000 spotter's fee for anyone who nominates a person who successfully completes the challenge. Here a chance for everyone who claims to know a master psychic but who isn't talented enough to win the prize themselves.

I was talking about reality tunnels man. I gave you one.
I don't think people should believe in psychic powers unless they have them or know someone that does, because it is just an ego elevation and part of a desire to feel special and powerful and important.
I find you very curious in your desire to very readily wage annihilation on these viewpoints though. Personally I have experienced enough to verify for me that psychic abilities are real.
Proposing another idea, if you were psychic why not just go take advantage of casinos or win the lottery to get your money?
You don't like hearing this perhaps but many of these people get these abilities through complete service to God, and fame is the last thing they would care about.
This however does keep the point "they could use it feed the poor" very valid, and a very good one at that. I can counter it by the link I gave about Randi, but perhaps some foundations are legitimate and give real MONEY.
If you want to get your machete out "God" is an empty word which means nothing in particular and which I have no desire to argue semantics over. The characteristic is simply that of complete selfless service to love, a word that can also be hacked to pieces. But this is not of my interest.

Om Namah Shivaya, I tell you What!

How does a good-faith request for a demonstration equate to a desire to annihilate something?
People keep telling me they can do this. I keep asking to see it. Nobody ever shows me. What else can I tell ya.

They devote themselves to service, but they refuse to win the money and use it for a good cause? Listen to what you're saying.
and fame is the last thing they would care about
Yet there are thousands of people who claim to have these powers and make a living selling books, appearing on talk shows, and charging $500 for a 30 minute telephone reading. Does the name Ms. Cleo ring a bell?

I can't do it.

Put yourself into the shoes of a bald-headed monk in his 70s or 80s who grew up in a culture which is very non-individualistic, has nothing to do with boasting, and factor in that he has spent at least 40 years practicing daily meditation.
Perhaps he would say that no matter what he does, as long as the conditions for starving exist, there will be starving, and he finds himself better suited to teaching disciples how to dissolve into light rather than to give people food? In Buddhism showing off siddhis is very strictly shunned, the Buddha is said to have rebuked a monk for using his power to get fruit from a tree.
This is not a critique of whether such views are right, it is just emphasis for understanding. Because the only people I know that are capable of mind reading are these kinds of people.

Right, belief in such things is often held by people that want to inflate the ego and may be good with manipulating coincidence slightly above the margins of chance, thusly fueling their views. They may be complete charlatans. They may be good at what they are doing. Maybe some are sincere enough.

I completely agree Silversoul... When i give advice i always make sure to say that whatever worked for me, but they might be different. One of my pet peeves are people who really dont understand this, and just assume that because it worked for them that it will work for everyone no matter what.
