I used couple inches straight perlight in a styrofoam cooler with a suran wrap lid. Vetilated 2 - 3 times a day and had wonderfull 1st harvest, its now working on second flush.

Just don't let water droplets from "lid" plumment down on cakes, leaves nasty looking bruise....

On the other side, my case did poorly, but I think I let it dry out by accident, even though I misted it twice daily....

perlite is what I use, and it works great! You just gotta make sure theres a heat source underneat the terrarium (heating pad, incubator etc. otherwise, it doesn't work that well.
